if you worked on a VW, you have experienced wiring issues… bottom line. Not sure if its the complexity of them, or poor quality job or what… but it seems like every VW has its certain quirk.
That’s what I’m afraid of. I mean if you buy a new one, or used w/ low miles and have the factory warranty hopefully you can get all those quirks worked out b4 you’re out of warranty. But my buddy has seen VWs just out of warranty that need several thousand in wiring work. From what he’s told me it’s a little of both of the things you listed. I guess some of the routing isn’t very well thought-out and is susceptible to chafing which in turn causes shorts and exposes the wiring to corrosion. Some of it is just the connectors aren’t particularly weather tight and some of the fuse blocks and such are just low quality. It just seems weird because (for the price) everything else in those VWs are very high quality, and extremely well thought-out and engineered. It’s truly an anomaly. And it sucks cuz a nice year or two old Jetta is really just what the gf needs. I guess I’ll have to look at it’s competition but I just don’t like any of it as much.
