0w40 oil?

My car VW 1.8T from the factory uses 5w40 and that’s what I run in it. I know there is a 0w40 out there as well, never tried it.

I havent looked at the price of most synth, but I know that Mobil(whats recomended for my car) is now the same price as Royal purpal a quart(RP was always so much mor eexpensive). Not a shock consindering the price of gas now days.

The purpose of synth is to go longer between changes, doesn’t matter if the car came with it from the factory or not, if you use synth and change it every 3K miles your wasting money, but you can run synth up to 10K and 20K miles, best way to see what your oil is doing is to send it to a lab (Blackstone Laboratories) I’m running the 25K Amsoil and getting it tested around 10K…

That’s not completely true. Synthetic oil has additives in it to reduce friction and disperse heat. It also does not break down as fast under hard driving. I would never trust any oil in my car for 10k or 20k.

that isn’t necessarily true. Older seals and stuff will swell differently in synthetic than in dino oil, so you may have leakage issues. I wouldn’t make a blanket statment like that though.

thats you, but its perfectly safe to run oil far past 10K as long as you monitor it and use the intervals, AMSOIL says 25K or a year. I will reach my year mark before I get to 25K…
