$1 million prop bet to run 70 miles in 24 hours

A simple prop bet gets out of hand between two friends and roomates and evolved into exactly the thread title: 3-1 odds against himself that he could run 70 miles in 24 hours. This story is from the POV of the friend betting against him and apparently from his facebook blog. It’s a long read, but I highly suggest it.

gah. blocked at work. ill have to remember to read it when i get home.

Blocked for Gambling! Dammit.

Run for the entire 70 miles or just get there? I think I could walk/run/jog to my parents house in Rochester in 24 hours.

Just get there, I’d imagine. Average speed to finish in 24 hours would be 2.9 miles per hour, a decent paced walk.

Edit: Not allowed to walk, nevermind.

Run for the entire time. Walking does not count to the miles. It is a really good read, I am about 2/3 done as I keep stopping for work.

I saw that posted by CraigtheDec (my bro’s college roommate)

Blast! Damn work getting in the way. Lol.

For those who can’t read it yet, It’s more than just a cute story of someones attempt at a physical feat. As it is written from one of the guys betting on his own friend, it really shows moral and emotional dilemas that this can put people though.

Jesus Christ. I just read the whole thing. Great story

He ran the whole thing on a treadmill. They set a designated speed that he could not fall below. He was allowed ANY amount of breaks he wanted. Also, he was out drinking heavily the night before, and was on only 4 hours of sleep. Amazing.

Any takers on 10-1 odds Karter can’t run 30 miles in a week?

Wow that’s crazy!

What a good read:tup: Amazing what humans are capable of…

My tri buddy did a double marathon and I thought that was NUTS.

if i knew someone had previously run 22 miles in one stretch and had very recently run 13 miles just as a work out i would never take those odds. ultramarathoners are completing 100 miles in less than 16 hours…spot someone in clearly good shape 8 more hours to do only 70% of that distance…not a chance
