$10000 Budget... What would you do?

just to clear up my eariler post. I mean’t stock KA.

Andrew.

hmm i’d have to agree with most of what was said so far…

Zbrakes
Coils
LSD
Suspension Arms
Chasis Freshenup
Driver seat of your choice
Motor of choice, RB/CA/SR/KA/KA-t all are possible …

but personally i wouldn’t do a kat unless u know how to work on it your self… they aren’t the motor of choice for someone who can’t build their own ride IMO

and save the rb for people with some ability to surce jdm parts…

i don’t like the SR but i’m not going to lie it’s got to be the best choice out there for someone who’s starting out and wants somthing reliable and ez to find parts for you can’t argue with the ease of finding sr parts it’s almsot like a ka in that respect everyone and their uncle can find u SR parts

S14 Blacktop
Agressive Clutch
6pt RollCage
Engine/Tranny Mounts
Cheap Mags
94 Octane Gas

I’d sell the S13 for 5Gs to some drift ricer wannabe, then I’d have 15,000
and I’d just buy an S14 with everything already done to it cause im lazy.

if everyone does exclusively what people are saying to do in this thread, this club will turn into a cookie cutter car club with no variety what so ever.

Take the advice in this thread because its all good, sasha laid it out as clear and accurate as anyone, but at the same time add your own splash of originality.

My last car was pretty basic as far as low buck S13’s go but I still did things to set it apart. Example, I custom cut my front bumper instead of buying something mass produced and it always got peoples attention. I also picked a non stock colour to paint the car.

Good luck with whatever you do, make sure not to dump money into a rust bucket tho. Thats the most important issue.

btw, PM me if you need somewhere to get all this work done

i’ve been doing some research i’m really going towards the KA-T route.

I’d rather spend money into a fully built KA-T than a used SR that has been rotting in a Japanese junk yard for the past decade. Eventually, the SR will need rebuilding whereas the KA will already have forged goodies. Not to mention that if you want to shoot for high horsepower with the SR, you’re gonna need a different turbo manifold and the whole works. KA-T is definately gonna be my choice since roaming around on www.ka-t.org really made me feel that the KA is nicest platform, IMO.

It’ll probably come down to:

$4000 into engine, transmission, and turbo

$2000 into wheels, tires, and suspension (settle for lowering springs for now)

$3000 into accessories (boost controllers, exhaust, Safc2, etc…)

$1000 into miscellaneous items.

Labour will come from having lots of friends with 240sx’s that are gearheads. As for the engine, that’ll need to be professionally done.

I’m hoping that this will all get started by this winter.

thanks for the replies,

Xoh

XOh man, ka-t do it , do it do it , u areay know ur gonna be faster than that MR.TOOO ur driving, remember the huron bussiness park ownage u received?? i say do it , u know me and the the crazy white boy are down for some hack and shmack, and u know ull get some links on some 2nd hand parts that i got in the vault

hahaha nice that you found me on here H

I’m definately ditching my 93 MR2 Turbo for this KA project. I have given up on the 3SGTE as I found out that it’s not very great in terms of dollar per performance gain. Although the car is dead sexy, it’s a sheep in wolves clothing.

Yoh H, you’re definately gonna be in on this build once I get rid of the deuce coupe.

im starting from scratch this winter going to be bigger and better , im thinking somewhere along the lines of twice as fast this year , and definatly twice as sexy

damn I thought that mr2 looked familiar

This is your buddy right H ?

I’ve meet you @ h’s/timmis a few times… have the red S13/SR

10g’s to spend?? I’d sell my 240 and put a down payment on something new or save another 10g’s and buy a house.

are you seriously going to waste 10g’s of your money on a car with no resale value?

id sell the car and buy an rx7… jk.

but in all honesty id doo waht aschon said.

id personally like to have a new car thats decently preped as well…

you have an mr2 already and you want to get into s13’s? why… that makes no sence… especially if your starting point is the newer gen of mr2…

think twice before you dive into an s13… unless you just want a project car

GT

interestingly enough…

i bet alot of us have more than $10k into our cars and they never turn out exactly how we planned it.

i have WAY MORE than $10k that i have spent in the last 2 years on modfying my 240sx and i agree completley with Sasha’s list but it never works out like that.

that list assumes that you never run into any problems, never have to do any regular maintenance and always do the installs yourself without fail.

also, $10k is a tall order considering you also have to spend $4000+ per year in gas and insurance plus incidentals (licensing fees, certs, etests, tickets…lol)

hands up for people with $10k, or at least what feels like $10k in their cars that are still not close to where they want to be?

raises hand

on another note, putting $10k on a house is just a poor an investment as modifying a car. its easy to prove. you actually lose more money because of the size of the investment and it it a much larger commitment with much more difficult and time consuming exit barriers.

I think I have over 10g’s invested this summer alone… oh god…I’m an idiot!

 over $50,000 into my cars since i started modding back in 2001

retarded when you think about it.

GT

i’ve prolly got $20k just in this coupe alone if you ad up everything that i have carried over from my last few cars since i was 17 (had my N1 dual since 1st year of university and i have since graduated…lol)

as much as it is stupid to keep tossing $$$ into it, i just dont care.

i’m 22, unmarried and IT’S FUN!!!

I’m close to 10g’s this year too…

I got about $6000 into my 240 including engine, parts, suspension, rims and the car itself…

If I wasnt able to make 1/2 the parts on it myself and do the engine swap myself not to mention fix the frame then I could have easily been @ 10gs

But I figure I’ll drop $3000 easily into it this winter as all go and no show will not be acceptable for next year

ya I think I have close to $10000 into my car
well that also depends on if you are talking what you spent and what everything also should have cost.

a carefully documented $10,534.91 including the chassis since about this time last year.
the rx i had 11ish into and the s14 i was in the 15k range
