would one not see a better return on a sr20 swap then just a ka with turbo?
the mony you invest on the 120***km ka-t to get it reliable ie rebuild or water pump at a bare min for the ka vs and the cost for a sr with 60***km and the install of it.
a sticky situation
bottom line if you want the torque and driveability ka-t seems better
if your doin’ time attack and h/w blasting. the sr is a definate contender
then you give it a kouki facelift drop it on megans’ coils
ridding 17x7.5 all around on a moderate priced 3 piece with falkan sports gummy’s. a cat back lsd flat black the mofo and voila a sweet way to show an M3 who wears the pants. :bukkake: wow i love these smilees
RB26DET!!!.. a type R sticker for the extra horse power, or a canadian tire R racing sticker for the done up look with a stripper sticker on the side windows to get all the ladies…and maybe an awesome Ractive muffler with some of those cool LED lights inside.
Seriously, I wouldn’t waste my money on body mods etc. I would do the suspension and then drop in a RB26DET and spend the rest of the money on engine upgrades.
ok I do not do these sr VS KAT battels but I do have to say this
\why would the KAT havew more driveability, I find the sr is a lot smoother then the KAT when boosting, probbly becsue it was designed to run forced induction (THIS IS NOT SAYING ONE IS BETTR THEN THE OTHER)
It would all depend on the setup of the KA-T and the year ofthe KA. I have found that 96+ KA’s handle boost way diff then the earlier KA Prob because the diesign change of the head and the diff cams but with my 97 engine the boost is “silent” it is a very steady smooth torque curve.
On s13 KA’s I have noticed boost comes on hard, sometimes hard enough to break the tires loose in second gear when it does come on. I am only running 5 psi and use very little gas, I have amazing drivabilty and I can keep up with a moded SR20.
That is just my experience with KA’s I am not saying one is better then the othe because I am a fan of the SR aswell. It Is a well designed engine that is very easy to work on and it is very strong. I kind of admire the design of the SR and how simple it is but how effective it is.
If you want to know what to do with your 10,000g’s go to the war of the wheels thread in the car media section or wait till the show airs in January.
i’d say spend 1/4 of it on the chassis itself… re-do the WHOLE damn thing. new paint, bushings, fix anything that has to be done (frame/floor) etc which could easily be $2500 depending on how good you want it done and how good of a paint job… motor area i’d guess would see $5000 easy leaving $2500 for suspension items/rims etc…
I’d keep my SOHC, install some standalone injection controller along with new injectors and a turbo so I guess I’ll need a custom mani. I’ll need a lsd and new brakes/suspensions/rims/tires. If any left > body work.
RB26DET, RB26DETT I don’t care give me $10,000.00 and I will find a way to turn it into a RB26DETTT if I have to  .[/quote]
you cant do an RB26 for 10 grand.
even if you somehow did, you would need to heavily upgrade the brakes and suspension to compensate for weight.
i know a guy who works at a shop, he has an RB25 and even at his costs hes spent nearly 20 G’s.
my last car had almost exactly 10 G’s into it. Do what i did, it was a sick car.
A.) If I could I’d focus on the chassis, energy Bushings, and/or address rust and other crap
B.) Grab yourself a Z32 4 corner brake kit, not enough people stress the improvement this upgrade delivers, add a master cylinder and your good to go,
C.)wheels and tires and/or Suspension maintance/upgrades
D.)Give it to Jedi = 1 roll cage thought/promotion…
Truthfully I don’t care about my shell, and if a ding appears, then it won’t bother me cause I know its temporary and its whats on the inside that counts…I can take all the good and leave the bad (the chassis) when the time comes
this would be a VERY fun, VERY driveable, VERY reliable, VERY forgiving car that is well balanced, if anything lacking power, which is how eveyrone should start IMO
then save another 6,000$ for SR swap and you are in the top 10 240s in toronto easy. its all about doing everything tastefully and tkaing your time and making each mod the best it can be, well thats my philosophy anyways.
