advice on my project.

ok, so im really bored tonight figured i would post some stuff and get some opinions.

heres the low down.

ive been collecting parts for a KA-t build for a while now (for a winter project)
but i want more power than i think the ka can handle without tons of work. i was thinking around 14- 16 psi. if i were to go ka i would be willing to do forged pistons full standalone ecu ect. then i look at the cost to get that done. (i dont feel comfortabe doing the pistons by myself). and i could get a race built sr for the same amount…

heres my car as it sits now.

GT28RS Garrett with downpipe and elbow

ive also got some MB bbattles 17x9.5+15 with dunlop direzzas 235/40/17 (front) 245 (rear) (waiting for all this still)

so i would like to go the route of sr, but my car has all the features hicas, abs ect… i would like to keep all this, so im wondering if the sr would still be an easy install. like driveshaft fitment ect. or if anyone thinks the KA-T would still be a good route considering the engin is only at 88 thous kms.

the plans for the car will be a fully built time attack/ grip car for next season. roll cage ect…

budget of 10, 000 more.

i will post more pics and such as i get more installed and done. since i finally have time off work.

;so any advice, suggestions, help… would be greatly appreaciated

thanks

Nate

here in that one you can see the orig paint on the frame, its like that all over. i just chipped some off with a jack stand

holy fuck, what dusty barn did you find this in? that car is in such good shape man, good job with the find. You better put something gangster in it!!!
maybe ditch the hicas tooo

Damn, that is a clean chassis. Canadian car?

honestly I’d say its mostly personal preference at this point. I would go with the KA, just becuase it has such low km and you already have the engine. If your gunna do internals and eveyrhting on either motor, your going to spend around the same amount for similar numbers. Installing the Sr and keeping all your options shouldnt be hard.

nice car man. what exhaust are you running?

forget psi as your goal… figure it in terms of HP.

if it were summer i would say go for a rip as a passenger in a few cars, i’d glady take you out in my coupe, but cant do it now.

knowing you and knowing your HP goals, i would say SR.

if you only wanted 250whp for a street car i would say stick with KA, bottom mount T25 etc. but you want 300 - 350whp and an SR will get there with basic bolt ons. A KA will take more than that to do it as reliably.

people will agrue about this all day long, but there are a dozen SR’s with 300whp for every one KA.

the exhaust is the top speed one that bing carrys, i like it!
it is a canadaian car, and its been a constant battle with myself on wherther to go sr or ka-t so i figured i would post what i got and hear some opinions

be different. try this?

anyone even know what this is? hahaha!

Heyy bro, isn’t that the car you posted on TNC and u were at Bing’s meet too I believe. You have a really clean car, good to see nice examples.

Go for it, ur KA is low mileage and most likely in great condition as well! I would definitely get forged pistons, and reinforce the block, just strengthen internals and your more likely golden in terms of less headache on producing monstrous torque and power out of it;)

yea i have seen a few arguments about this, was hesitant to post this.

but yes the horsepower goal is 330-350 hp range. and i am leaning towards the sr

unless you are fully commited build a ka-t PROPERLY then go sr. i should not be too hard to put an sr in providing you have the proper tools, engine hoist ect. your engine is low km will take minor boost(6-8psi) all day, but it will never handle 18psi stock.

you have real nice clean car with unheard of km for a canadian car. where did you find it?

i have access to a garage on weekends so the sr wouldnt be a problem to install. i also have a ton of tools at the house, masy just pick up an engine hoist from princess…

tosh: an older guy drove it for years and years and stored it most of the time. then the manager of plaza nissan (who originally sold the car) bought it off the guy and kept it in perfect condish since then.

ls1 swap. 350 hp stock. done

[y]SkW_BjrtWmA[/y]
30PSI on a KA with Stock Internals and there is another s13 i think now im not saying it lasted but it can be done anyway sr vs ka debate is so old:weaksauce:

there is a guy like that in my hood. he has a 91 white base model coupe. car is mint and it just sits in the garage all day. the guy even has a bra on it lol. i am patiently waiting.

nice score on your car and g/l with your swap.

peace

one thing i am still wondering is the complications the options i have on my car could present with the sr swap, ive looked around havent found much on this

thanks

I would go with an sr same turbo you have cams, injectors, etc…and a good tune at 16-18psi and boom 350hp and up.

The options your car has currently won’t really affect anything your going to do.

If you want to get rid of hicas you can just take apart the pump, get rid of the inner fins, and have the feed to the rear blocked off, or you can just get a non-hicas ps pump, res., and subframe, and call it a day.

The abs won’t affect anything to do with the SR either.
You’ve gotta remember, a 180 is very similar to the 240 as far as options go.

Good luck. Offered him a fair bit of cash not long ago. The guy is really cool though, 140 ish km.

If you’re building a time attack car, get rid of the HICAS subframe, i think its somewhere around the extra weight of 20-30lbs, ABS actuator somewhere around 15-20lbs, and i’d say go SR with boltons. There are lots of KATvsSR threads but bottom line is, SR stock internals can handle past 350whp i dont think KA internals will put up with that.
