135i Window problems

My girl’s 2009 135 is having a window issue. A few weeks back she tried to roll the driver side window down but according to her it had ice or a blockage and struggled to go down. It did, and she eventually put it back up, but now the window is no longer functioning. I hear the relay clicking, and a nice yellow warning light shows up on the dash, but the window doesn’t even attempt to move -even with 0 blockage.

I tried google and the only thing I seem to find is how to reset the window, nothing about any inoperable function. Any BMW dudes go through this before? I tried looking at the fuses but frankly its cold and in a rather difficult spot. Towne is too busy to take her in and we are in a bind as we are going to Toronto this weekend and would like to roll down the window for the border.

Any quick tips? Goff? Help?

Does it sound like the motor is running but no motion?

It sounds like it doesn’t even get that far. Something is clicking inside, indicating its getting some sort of input, but no motor function, or even a mechanical sound.

I bet it blew the motor relay or the motor is stuck closed due to a faulty read from the motor, check this out:

From my experience if the cable mechanism of the window regulator is binding in any way then the motor won’t be able to move it, even though it’s trying.

On my Audi there was some dumb little plastic part that had a few teeth snap off, caused a very similar situation. Perhaps something like that is going on…which makes sense if there was resistance when the motor had to break the window loose. Was a $10 part and about 2 casual hours to swap it out. The timing doesn’t sound good, but if you can pop the door panel off quick enough you may be able to spot any mechanical breakage.

As for going through the border, just open the door.

@goff this guy knows it all.

In typical BMW fashion I would bank on it being the regulator.

Fudge,

Its a bit cold to be opening the door panel. We ended up taking my Range anyway, but this would help the drive thru experience as well.

had to take the Range eh? #firstworldproblems
