my dad bought this car as a cruiser for the summer (same deal as the MCSS)…and it’s turning into a little resto project. Not quite as in detail as my neighbor’s mopar hobby, but should look great none-the-less.
as soon as he brought it home, the car had probably 80-90% of its mechanical maintenance done… (new brakes, hoses, lines, pumps, etc etc etc.) nothing interesting here.
then it went straight into the body shop. started out like this:
much of the paint was checkered, top was poopy, chrome wasn’t quite as nice as it should be, but overall it is a very solid car for being 47 years old.
in one day EVERYTHING was stripped off the car. chrome, lights, moldings, top, all the interior besides the dash, etc.
since the body is all “detroit iron”, we just used some pretty high potent aircraft stripper gel on the thing, then sraped it off and DA’d. this is what it looks like now, after 4 days in the body shop:
added the pictures above… i bet tomorrow they will finish with the stripping and start the body work. i dont see why they wouldnt have the first coat of primer on by the end of the week
north carolina… 24hr STRAIGHT round trip; SO GLAD i got out of that one
the brazed spots, the “right way” old school way to patch, lol. i’m not sure mang. i would imagine they are going to clean up the edges and fill around it, but i’m not really sure. not that i was really looking, but they didn’t really stand out before we stripped the car, so it might be solid body work to work from
yea they’re hauling on it. im actually not really involved in this. by “we” im mean our guys here. mine’s next and im not really looking forward to it. luckily i dont have as much work
it has potential. this coral color would be sweet… i love '50s, early '60s themes:
just a real quick search. he wants it the original color though, and isn’t really into the customizing. he definitely wouldn’t want to “rican” it up. and i dont mean that in a racist way, just don’t know how else to put it
he’s been getting all his parts out of an “Ames” catalog. it has most of the stuff for this car. he went a little nuts with all the rubber, clips, handles, and all the other resto BS. luckily it’s not really expensive for these things. the right way to go though
Nice car. Looks like he is going out and doing it right. Depending on how long he keeps cars, I might be in the market when it come time for him to sell. ANd an old school convertible bonneville is right on the top of my list of cars i’ll be looking for.
