Hey guys. My name is Dylan and I’m fairly new to this site, I have owned my 240sx since the start of 2011. I bought it as my first car and at the time I was 18. I paid 3500 dollars for it with 213xxx on it with an autotragic transmission and Work XD9 wheels(Which I believe originally came from this forum)
So here is a picture of when I first bought it.
I loved it. I had always wanted a s13 hatch and to have one as my first car was pretty cool. I didn’t know much about cars beforehand. When I bought the car it also had Tein lowering springs but the front struts were on their way out. My first purchase for the car were these.
They are just Megan track spec’s but I wasn’t making tons of money and they were on sale at the time of purchase So it went from this:
To this:
It handled insanely better, I was super happy with how it handled. Although it really needed some adjustable suspension linkage so I could align it properly while being so low. I was on my way to that when I managed to smack my oil pan really good and knocked my oil pick up off. The car was flatbedded home and parked in the garage in fall of 2011. I had some decision making to do, rebuild my ka24 and buy a 5spd to swap in during the winter or to look in to a sr20det complete swap. Well I pulled the trigger on a blacktop in December.
I was super excited to learn more about cars and with the help of a friend we unclipped and bolted the dormant ka and auto transmission.
We only had the hoist for a weekend so I didn’t get to clean my engine bay up as much as I wanted to. But in a weekend we managed to swap the motorsets which I felt pretty accomplished doing since I had only owned my car for a year.
I also ordered some other small parts for the car like some 20mm wheel spacers, a Recaro SRD bucket setup, a steering wheel hub and my awesome girlfriend got me a Nardi suede deep corn wheel. I didn’t do much else because I spent all I had getting the sr20 setup and running for the spring. As the snow melted it started to come together!
With the new spacers making the wheels sit nice and flush I had to go down to a 225/45 rear tire from a 235/45. But I was happy with how it sat.
I had also added an OEM lip and removed my DRL to let the tiny side mount intercooler breathe for the time being. I got the car back on the road in time for spring and driving it for the first time in over 6 months felt great. Having the car run strong made me feel super accomplished and made it even more fun to drive. So over the summer I didn’t do too much to the car other than add a boost controller and gauge so I can run 10psi. I bought new tie rod/tie rod ends and replaced those and I also did my RUCA’s at the same time and took the car to be properly aligned which made a huge difference. I took the car to some autox and lapping days to try and teach myself car control. I also spent some time making my engine bay look pretty…
Towards the end of the summer when I had saved up some money I was deciding what to do to my car this winter. First up was a real IC setup!
I also picked up a HKS BOV with the intercooler and piping. I got a great deal from the man himself Dylan Sharpe and I should apologize to Bing again for making him hold and intercoooler for me when I was a huge flop. Not too long after that Dylan sent me another message and told me he had some baller aero for my car and I was thinking about doing an OEM kit this winter so I ended up with…
Very excited about that. I am still looking/saving for some kouki tails and I even got an OEM “Twin Cam Turbo Intercooler” sticker which I am way too excited about hahah… The blue bar is a HICAS lock bar since this car was blessed with the oh so wonderful rear steer assist… lol. So with the parts piling up and the winter coming, I parked the car a bit early because of a super annoying and power robbing exhaust leak. I began the tear down again
A nice collection of leaves I was saving from my fall drives hahaha
And last weekend a good friend and I took the engine back out of the car.
And then I found the bastard of an exhaust leak… a very blown apart metal turbo inlet gasket.
So that is where I am currently at guys. Over 2 years I’ve learned so much about cars and I have met some awesome people. I have some big plans for the car this winter so stay tuned and feel free to let me know what you think of my build in the mean time!
