posted before about a manual tranny swap, I’ve decided that I want to do motor and tranny, so I’m looking for a b16 with manual tranny and everything included to do the swap for both the motor and the tranny with 80k miles or under. my car right now is bone-stock with the 1.5L and an automatic transmission.
Good luck with that. Thats a minimum of $1500
Japanstar in albany or hmotorsonline
went to Japanstar yesterday, found out they’d do the whole swap for $2000, so thats a little out of my pricerange. Said I could get a B18 or B20 for $1200-$1300 with everything, which should I go with? I’d assume more displacement would produce more power, but they said the B20’s cheaper than the B18…are both DOHC?
also you said in another post you had everything for a man. tranny swap for me, and yet another post you said you had everything for a rear-disc conversion from an integra, do you still have that?
B = DOHC, D = SOHC, B has 2 humps = 2 cams, D has 1 hump = 1 cam
If you want a cheap vtec swap. Pick up a B18b lower end, with a b16 or GSR head and do LS/Vtec. If you build them right, you can produce more power then a GSR motor for half the cost.
You can piece together a full B18 swap for about $800. Not to mention I have just about a full swap for $400 if you don’t mind some assembly.
Hmotorsonline has the b20 for $550 so theres ur swap pickup a hydro trans and ur straight ur stock harness will work on whatever motor u dcide to get
define ‘just about a full swap’ and ‘some assembly’, I’m interested.
found these (all relatively in my pricerange) in hmotorsonline:

Im looking for the easiest and least expensive swap to do (keep in mind that I need to switch from auto to manual), so basically i need to know what motor to go with and what tranny to get, or if manual trannies work with any motor, etc. thanks for all the help so far.
You need a trans, clutch, flywheel, and to swap the head (or i will do it if you pickup a headgasket).
do a K20
Just buy my Civic, B16 swap already done
nah, my car’s only got 83k on it and its in fantastic shape…what motor of those i posted should i go for? and what tranny and everything do i need to get to mate with it?
All b series transmissions mate to b series blocks. It also depends on your future goals and what you plan on doing with it. ITR / GSR / LS tranny… people will be able to better inform you about your choices once you set your goals.
Whichever motor fits ur price range anything bseries is where it is…
I’m looking to build something inexpensive but with decent power potential, nothing fancy or super fast, just enough to be proud of I guess.
Too broad. Boost / Na / auto-x / drag? Specifics.
Just toss in a B18b swap with a LS trans. You will be content with it for a while. Plus they have a ton of parts for it and you could always swap out the head for a V-tec one later on. The ls trans will serve you good as a communter. If you are looking to get something with closer gearing, then pick up a B16 or GSR trans.
That sounds good. How much do you think that setup would cost? And if I decided to add a v-tec head later on, would I have to get a new ecu/harness, or is there a v-tec adaptor for the ecu?
Definately n/a to start, but I do want DOHC, v-tec is not necessary unless I can get it inexpensively (like the guy below said, I can just add a v-tec head later). I’m basically looking for the most inexpensive dohc/manual tranny swap.
A whole B18b swap would run you less then $800 if you found the parts privatly. If you go to somewhere like Japan Star would charge you a bit more then $1500 for a swap.
It doesn’t take much to swap a vtec head on. If you luck out and get the early model 93’ Civic, then the vtec wires are already there in the engine bay. Otherwise you just have to run about 5 more wires. They make a chip kit for about $40 to convert your ecu to vtec.
