1994 lt1 vett overheating issue

my aunt has a 94 vette with a lt1 and it keeps over heating, so far my cousin has cleaned off the radiator, flushed it out, changed thermostat, he says the radiater is flowing good, what else could it be? are there any comon problems with the cooling system on these cars?

waterpump?

If he changed the thermostat, did he put the LT1 specific one in it?
It’s not a normal SBC thermostat.

Also, did he purge all the air out of the system when he replaced the thermostat?

Something went dead with my lt1 and the fan wouldn’t turn on, so I just wired a switch into the dash. Solved my overheating issue… Check for that.

I did the same… Flushing, water wetter, 160 thermostat.

the fans go on when there supposed to or when you turn the ac on, yes he purged all the air out of the system and im sure he put a lt1 specific thermostat in, any other ideas?
he was thinking waterpump but its 500$ and he dosnt want to buy it if he dosnt have to

You can get a waterpump for sub $100, don’t even make me search around…

ls1tech
ebay

Make sure there isn’t a hose thats pinching itself closed.

500 bucks for a waterpump?

holy shit

the 500$ is what he got for a price when he looked through the shop computer , where can you get one for 100$?

I’d say waterpump then as well.

Easy job, just make sure to cover the Opti and not get it soaked or you WILL be replacing that too.

i did not look for parts locally, he just said from his parts catalog it was 500 which is probably a dealer product and price

did he put dexcool in it :stuck_out_tongue:

Coolant temp sensor?

the thermostat is the correct one, im thinking either waterpump or temp sensor but would it throw a code if it were the temp sensor? the ses light is not on

$60 on ebay for a re-manufactured one.

Temp sensor bad = No fans…

fuck that. if she’s gonna keep the car, get the $$ MSD opti and don’t tear down the accessory drive 2x. i have a love/hate relationship with the LT1

Trust me, my Love Hate is STRONG with the LT1…

I’ve got the opti down to a 45 minute job from floor jack to floor jack… think I’ve done it a couple times?

I dunno what Opti replacements are out there anymore; my cars been DOA for 2 years now, seeing I’ve been too broke to fix it. I was running a Delteq when she crapped out; and that worked AWESOME.

Probably just go with a Crank Trigger/Coil-per-plug/Fast XFI setup when I get her back together.

Does it boil over after running for about 10 minutes, and piss coolant everywhere?
