UPDATE a good friend of mine was talking to one of the investigators of this accident and they concluded he was NOT texting. He in fact had fallen asleep.
I just wanted to pose a correction on my earlier post that speculated he may have been texting.

yea I heard this kid was up all night cramming for a test or something. 
It’s not that big a deal to have to stop. Besides that, chances are if you’re going to get your kid a car and a cell you can just spring for a $100 GPS.
how the hell can you confirm he was sleeping? I’m just really confused that if he was dead, how can you figure that out…?
