2000 jeep grand Cherokee electrical power issue

My fathers has a 2000 jeep grand Cherokee with the 4.0 inline 6. It has 194k on it. Yesterday his abs light came on but then shut off a few minutes later, this morning he was driving and all the power seemed to shut off while driving but came right back on before it could power down completely. It did this 3-4 times while making the drive from colonie to downtown Albany. After it did this the abs light came on again but shut off within a minute or so. This thing is his baby and he will drive it till it dies. He keeps this thing is excellent shape and elliot and Jim p can verify this. Just asking to see what the problem might be.

Shapes, is it throwing a check engine light? May want to attempt to scan it for codes.

No CEL. I think he’s getting it looked at today. Hopefully it’s nothing major.

Sounds like it could be the ignition switch going bad, or a loose/dirty battery terminal and/or ground.

I’ll have to call him and have him check the connections.

my dad had the same problem with a v8 one and it turned out to be the security system messing with every thing some how.

Good call Kenny. He checked the connections and the negative was actually broken. He replaced it and works fine

I had the same issue on my 94… the terminals are pretty crappy and the corrosion just eats right through them. Glad all is well.

Yeah he’s had pretty good luck with this thing. 194k and still running strong. Never had a major issue and pretty much only things he’s done is regular maintenance.
