2001 BMW 325i Sport - $5,000 obo

We are expecting a kid, and while I had hoped to get a 4-door for ease of kid transport, I think I am going to stick with the newer, more reliable of my two cars. I had my fun with this one though! I picked it up from Travis a few months ago, and now I am consider selling it. It felt good to do some hands on work though, something I haven’t done since getting married. Anyways, I compiled a pretty ridiculous history of the car, of which is true to the best of my knowledge. I recently redid the whole front end suspension and had it aligned. It overall is in fantastic condition. It has a rogue CEL that comes on for a lean code every now and then. I did a smoke test and can not find a leak, and it’s been off for several hundred miles now. The body is pretty damn clean. The driver’s side has a good number of scratches and dents/dings, but the rest of the car is very good for being 13 years old. Replacing the front suspension fixed almost all of the noises on the car. There is still a small clunk in the rear of the car, it is the rear, rear end bushing. It’s the factory rubber bushing and you can see it’s torn, so it has play in it. It’s manageable, and not too harsh.

I had the car up on the lift and it’s clean as hell underneath! As you probably saw on my detailing threads, I polished the hood, roof, and trunk (the 3 most scratched surfaces), and then sealed the whole car. The car has the factory business class CD player/radio with 10 speakers, and 8 of them work (and sound fantastic). I tested all of the lights (interior and exterior), a/c, heat, cruise, etc… Everything works! It has almost brand new tires, brand new suspension, paint cleaned and sealed for winter, and no major problems. It’s ready for a new home

Let me know if you have any questions. I’d like to get around $5,000 for it, but I have some wiggle room.

Here is my info on the car:

2001 BMW 325i Sport
VIN: WBAAN37481NE56350
Mileage: 165,071 miles

About the car:
I am the fourth owner of this car. According to the carfax report, the car was purchased new in Pennsylvania in 2001 and sold in 2005 to the second owner, at the time with 48,785 miles. That owner drove the car until October of 2011 when it was sold to Travis, with 149,983 miles. He kept the car until I purchased it in September of 2014 with 164,840 miles.

The previous owners kept pretty detailed records of the car, and its only accident ever reported was in May of 2014, where another cars tire brushed up against the front driver’s side fender, causing a small dent in the fender and some scratching. The damage was almost non-existent. You can see a photo of the damage here. The original fender is still on the car, it was just polished to minimize the scratching.

The car is in pretty good condition for its age and mileage. The body has no major flaws, just a few small dings and scratches, and 2 very small rust bubbles forming, one on each rear quarter panel near the wheel wells. The engine runs strong, the transmission shifts smooth, and the interior is clean. The previous owner swapped out the original interior with the ZHP black interior. The rear seats are perfect, the passenger seat has minimal wear, and the driver’s seat has moderate wear and a small tear on the side bolster. I think everything in the car works, all of the lights are tested, and all of the maintenance is up to date.

While I plan on selling the TDI before this car, here are a few crappy pictures I took in my garage of the car.

These photos were in my detailing thread, but for those who didn’t see, I polished the horizontal panels on the car while the weather was still decent:

The wheels are decent, I used IronX paste to clean them up. The tires are like new

Here is an up close of one of the scratches. It’s obvious when you are up close, but it doesn’t jump out at you from a distance.

And here are a few of the interior. It’s in good shape, and everything works. The car even has the Homelink garage door opener that works

Looks like a solid car for the money. GLWS

my e46 was just about identical but with not only sport but cold weather+premium and i can vouch other than the lack of heated seats, this car will be loved. such good DDs.
DSC works well enough where you don’t have to worry about it not being AWD in the winter.
GLWS

Too bad you weren’t looking for a truck, I’d trade ya. GLWS looks clean!

Forwarded to a friend. I wish I found this instead of the e46 I ended up with.

Good lighting outside right now. Here are 2, completely unedited photos I just took from the parking lot:

 looks great. one of the best e46 wheel options, always wish i had had those instead of the “snowflakes” or whateverTF mine were that came with sportpackage

Fixed the airbag light issue. It was the passenger seat occupancy mat, which detects when the passenger seat is being used. Apparently it is a very common problem with BMW, and the most common fix for it is just a little $10 resister http://roclife.org/forums/images/smilies/tup.gif It’s the same thing people do when they put racing seats in their cars, etc…

:wavey:

Yea, I definitely didn’t like the 17s that came on it.

Info on TDI?

It’s also posted on here:

Now that it is snowing I am more motivated. $4,800!

I believe I finally found the source of my random cel light. The valve cover gasket has a small leak, apparently that is one of the more common vacuum leak sources, and would explain my errant lean code. I just ordered a new oem gasket and will have it installed next week. It was just a small drip, but under certain events it must have been able to pull in enough unmetered air to cause the code.

Iv never heard the VCG causing a lean code and throwing the SES light. Mine has leaked twice and the first time when when i got the car, was to the point it would smoke all the time. No SES then. I would not hold your breath but hope thats it. A main cause is the F fitting coming off the intake boot. The smaller line rots away and its hard to tell.

I don’t want to get into this too much in a sale thread, but it’s quite common. The lower intake boot and a few other spots are common for a cold start cel, but the valve cover gasket is pretty common for seemingly random lean codes like this. I suspected it for a while, but didn’t see any leaks to confirm my suspicion until Christmas morning.

So you gonna fix it?

I replaced the valve cover gasket so it’s not leaking anymore. Since then the power steering pump broke though, so I will fix that and continue to sell at the current price, or I will lower the price more for a buyer to fix. Either one works for me.

$4,200 if someone wants it to replace the power steering pump themselves, or else back up to $4,800 fixed.
