2002 Lincoln LS Airbag woes

need advice. my mom’s car, a 2002 Lincoln LS (3.0 V6, auto) has had the airbag light on for a week or two and she wants it taken care of. i assume the dealership would rape us with cost, so i haven’t really considered that option yet.

she has a local mechanic that does all her work, but he said that he can’t diagnose the airbag light/fix it unless he scans the car, and has a wiring diagram for the airbag system/module. i WOULD just pick up a Chilton’s/Haynes manual for this thing, but apparently they don’t even make one for this vehicle. does anyone have access to a factory service manual online for this car?

i have not yet counted the blinks of the light (i’d assume that this tells me the code, similiar to how the CEL works). i briefly glanced at it when she told me about it and noticed that it blinks a few times, then stays lit.

any advice/help is appreciated.

Count the blicks. It gives you a code then you go look it up. I’m going to guess it’s a ground

anyone have the listing for the codes? are they specific to Lincoln, or universal to all makes?

Probably Ford/ Lincoln specific. I’d bet you can google them…

Code 32

Also. No buttons on the steering wheel work. No radio volume, no cruise, and no even the horn. Gotta be a clockspring.

Thanks 38stang

you can buy a used clockspring on car-part.com for that thing. It should be cheap.

If it is anything like the other fords I have worked on, the clockspring is pretty simple to replace. Just pull the bag, then the clockspring.
