Hey guys,
So the Sentra is finally all back together and running. Only problem is theres an idle bounce. I brought it to my friend and he grabbed these codes. He wasn’t sure what they could be. He was thinking a vacumme leak. The car idles (bounces) between 1000 and 2500. Any idea guys? Thanks in advance
don’t know of any sentra specific issues, but I’d verify there are no vacuum leaks, clean the TB and IAC which is what I presume is what controls the idle vs. a throttle plate stepper motor. What has been done to it recently?
You need to do the Idle relearn procedure…gimme a minute and ill find it for you

How To: Idle relearn w/ video
Note: Timing in this procedure is critical in order for it to be successful.
PREPARATION
Before performing Idle Air Volume Learning, make sure that all of the following conditions are satisfied. Learning will be cancelled if any of the following conditions are missed for even a moment.
- Battery Voltage: More than 12.9V (At idle)
- Engine coolant temperature : 158-203°F
- For A/T vehicles: PNP (Park/Neutral Position) switch: ON
- M/T vehicles: Neutral switch: ON
- Electrical load switch: OFF(Air conditioner, headlamp, rear window defogger)
*On vehicles equipped with daytime light systems, if the parking brake is applied
before the engine is started, the headlamp will not be illuminated. - Steering wheel: Neutral (straight-ahead position)
- Vehicle speed: Stopped
- Transmission: Warmed-up (Drive vehicle for 10 minutes)
OPERATION PROCEDURE
Without Consult-II
NOTE:
- It is better to count the time accurately with a clock.
- It is impossible to switch the diagnostic mode when an accelerator pedal position
sensor circuit has a malfunction.
-
Perform “Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning”
a) Make sure accelerator pedal is fully released.
b) Turn ignition ON and wait at least 2 seconds.
c) Turn ignition OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
d) Turn ignition ON and wait at least 2 seconds.
e) Turn ignition OFF and wait at least 10 seconds. -
Perform “Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning”
a) Make sure accelerator pedal is fully released.
b) Turn ignition ON.
c) Turn ignition OFF wait at least 10 seconds.
Make sure that throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming
the operation sound. -
Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
-
Check that all items listed under the topic “PREPARATION” (previously mentioned) are in
good order. -
Turn ignition OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
-
Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch ON and wait 3
seconds. -
Repeat the following procedure quickly five times within 5 seconds.
a) Fully depress the accelerator pedal.
b) Fully release the accelerator pedal. -
Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and hold for approx. 20 seconds untill
MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp, a.k.a. SES light) stops blinking and is turned ON. -
Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after MIL (SES) turned ON.
-
Start engine and let it idle.
-
Wait 20 seconds.
-
Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure that idle speed and ignition timing
are within the specifications.
ITEM SPECIFICATION
Idle speed 700±50 rpm
Ignition timing 15±5° BTDC
- If idle speed and ignition timing are not within the specification, Idle Air Volume Learning will not be carried out successfully. Further diagnosis may be required
Heres the video for you if your a visual learner.
WOW…thats a lot Hah. Thanks for the info! and the video!
I will def. try this
BTW-what would make this happen?
It was in an accident and looked like this. Bumper, lights, radiator, hood, fender etc all new. Finally ready for sale…well once the idle is normal
post updated
yea, thanks man…BTW have you done this before?
that video makes it look simple. thanks a lot!
I Have…its all in the timing, it really does matter lol
heres a video showing the idle bounce
My mom’s Spec is throwing a P0300 code…Chris, any thoughts?
Vacuum leak?
i had the same code…i cleaned my MAF and replaced fuel filter…so far problem solved
fyi p0300 is multiple cylinder misfire
Can’t get it to work for the life of me!
Maxima, how good are you at doing this? You located in wheatfield?
MaximaSE98, plz check PM’s
Sentra is FIXED!
It is now running great!!!
Glad it worked out Russ…just remember, don’t disconnect your battery…
he cant disconnect the battery all he wants…the disconnecting the TPS that does it…I assume you eneded up taking it to Niagara Nissan?..that stupid Idle relearn is a pain…it works sometimes and sometimes doesnt…Glad its all fixed
