2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

fixed

they tested the motor… and at 283 hp the rods break… the crank can take 400 hp stock… Its a nice motor to mod…

crank can only take 400hp? most cranks are rated around 800 even in the i4 world…hell even 1g neon cranks were rated something stupid like that. rods breaking at 280 does NOT sound like a nice motor to mod as that wouldnt’ even be putting you in the 13s range

i take back what i said if rods brake at 280 that pretty weak

dude you buy a civic for cheep NA power? :slap:

its still make the same HP and LESS tq than a base model cav which isn’t even avalible anymore.

Prices and power though out the past 5 years are pretty comparable.

And besides you are talking about NA stock, you never said anything about how much money you have to dump into it. Besides at this point with the ECOTEC that big gap of money difference form domestic to Imports is going to close rapidly and its already being proved on professional levels to the pont of them having to make rule changes because SOME (reads -> not all just some) of the Import guys were crying they had unfair advantages. Like being able to compensate for the HP being produced by converting the car to rear whell drive with beefier read ends. Now you are no longer allowed to do that you have to keep the same drivetrain that comes with the vehicle.

Yes I know we are talking about race teams compared to ricers, but its still the same concept.

big thing honda has over gm (cavalier/sunfire) is weight and handling

actually it was 190 with automatic and 195 with 5 speed.

but still the car isn’t even sold anymroe except used.

I can accpet that but to make a statement about buying a honda for NA HP is just hilarious.

edit: my car fully loaded with stereo equipment, and winter tires on it ran faster than Joels civic by 3 tenths 2 years ago. and my motor was stock with a WAI and CAT back.

k, i agree, makin sure we’re on the same page cuz u know how things go

Ford Focus RS

You acting like were all professional drag racers here.

dude you are getting way off topic. We are not talking about motor swaps either. we are talking about modding the OEM engine.

I have seen at carlisle harrisburg last year a grand prix (or grand am) with a V8 shoved in it. at the GM nationals last year saw a grand am (brad was there also) put down 310 to the wheels with a turbo. weather it was easy or not is not the point. it can be done.

But we started off comparing a stock SRT with maybe some bolt on upgrades to a Cobalt SS with Bolt on upgrades

An engine swap is not a “Bolt on”. And please don;t give me the well you have to bolt it onto the frame… :finger:

when in reality most are amature street racers :greddy:

k series motors are overrated, like i said before tony’s b-series in a 4th gen hatch would go 12’s proably full interior and hes got less into it than i got in my talon righ tnow

Joel has to step on the gas and go. its an auto. I have a 5 speed, we are both pretty much equal. My car ran faster of the two slips.

I;m not saying mine is a speed demon, but you are acting like it is night and day.

but again like I said this debate was about motors and bolt on, not swaps.

what are you?

i never said it wasn’t i wasn’t directing that at you i was directing it at him and his k20 swap idea. in fact i dont’ even know what we’re talking about anymore i think if brads correct on those numbers then that motor is a little weak, if it’s 400 for the rods and xxx for the crank that’s a little bit better. at the same time i’ve seen honda rods you won’t make 400 on a stock bottom end for very long

a grand prix owner

I know ust continuing with the conversation.
