^ I’ve never learned much about carbs. What I was reading last night was to screw the jets all the way in counting exactly how many turns it takes to bottom them out, then remove them. Clean out the little hole with a wire then screw the jets all the way back in, backing them out the amount you counted before. Sound right?
Fuel/air adjustment is the one you want to count the turns. Jets get screwed in tight. I use brake cleaner and compressed air. I usually just pull the jets and spray brake cleaner in the jets and every hole of the carb has. Hold the jets up to a light to see through them, were talking pin holes. Some people prefer carb/choke cleaner but I like brake cleaner. Use compressed air to blow anything out thats left. Also some times the PTO (clutch) side carb has a bigger main jet than MAG (stater/flywheel) side. Its not hard, take your time and do one at a time. Also check to make sure the float moves freely. Once carbs are back on check to make sure both open at the same time. Stick fingers in carb and pull throttle. You will feel them open up.
Heres a parts diagram

jay, does that 600 have the coolant passages running through the carbs? it was around that time that they started doing it. if it doesnt, i would say very good chance they just froze. on cold days like that if you dont have a cover and its an open trailer, wrap the carbs or block off the vents in the hood. if you ride in negative temps, stop at a bar or something and come back out, theres a chance they could freeze up then too. see it all the time on older sleds.
i plan on attending sledfest this year, will be there with some of the hebeler guys
Thats only for your mixture srcew. The rest of your jets you want tight.
Edit: damn you guys are quick.
Tricounty Drifthoppers will be closing the trails after tonite. They were able to groom last night, so at least some sort of a base is started. The temps the next few days aren’t to promising. Looks like back to square one. :jerkoff:
What bastards I saw a fuck load of sleds out tonight!
Really hoping for the sack of the industry that it snows everywhere in the north soon
How’d you make out?
You and everyone else.
Started on the first pull in my barely above freezing garage. I put some dry gas in the tank and decided to pick up a small 12 volt fan heater at harbor freight for $12 just in case it happens again.
At this rate it may be next year before I need to start it again though. 40’s and sunny a couple days next week. Even tug hill conditions range from closed to crappy, and they’re expecting a mix of rain and snow tomorrow and saturday.
Dry gas is a BAD BAD idea. Ethanol falls out of suspension, and oil will not mix with it readily, it’s injected so you have some hope. You’ve compounded the situation with more alcohol. Ethanol is hygroscopic and will absorb moisture from the condensation in the tank, and will never mix back in with the gasoline. Drain, and refill if you’re having freezing problems.
^ Actually the one I used was isopropyl based, which is fine:
Another good thread on using ISO:
^^^ i use startron in mine.
Glad its back up and running, I would have cleaned the carbs anyway just for peace of mind. Warm garage to cold trailer ride can cause water/ice as you have found out. Lets pray for snow so we can have a meet.
Project Fighter Cat now complete. Skis came in the other day and the bogeys I ordered came yesterday. Glad I decided to grease it Sunday and not wait. Two inner bogeys were going bad so I replaced all four of the center set. Skis mount without any sort of stiffener plate which I’m not thrilled about but they seem pretty rigid. Only time will tell. As expected when I give up plowing and have more time to ride, I’m walking around in a tee shirt. Let me know what you think of the results.
Just attended an Ullr party, hopefully we will see some snow so our machines can get some miles on them. All hail Norse God Ullr, god of snow/winter!!!
Looks good 1qikz, lovin it.
Any recommendations on where to go to get some new seat vinyl material? Would a place like Joann fabrics have what I need?
I would think a place that does boat / jet ski interiors would have something like that. Try ATM Restyle on Camp Rd. in Hamburg. I know they do watercraft work.
