The toro has a new briggs motor with no safety features. You let go and it will keep walking along.

That’s like the 60’s Ariens I sold. When you start it the auger is going. When you put it in gear you have to squeeze a handle to make it stop. It’s default running mode was in gear with the auger going, just aim it down the driveway and let it go. Lawyers today would have a field day with that thing.
Ugh, wish I never sold my ariens. Now I adopted this honda single stage thing. Works fairly well, moving snow up up to a foot or so. Needs two or three passes at the stuff near the road though.
I have one of those '60’s Ahrens, too. It is the living embodiment of George Patton, with a snow auger and tire chains. Probably weighs about 130 lbs, 34" deck. It actually ate through a metal-potted plant last year before I realized it wasn’t a snow drift.
I’m getting an ancient Ariens with my house next month. Now I’m looking forward to using it.
I found out the other day that my snows are too small to fit my new car, so I found some bigger wheels and ordered tires. I just hope it isn’t bad on Thanksgiving because I have to drive to South Wales.
Got pretty much the low end of the forecast in amherst. Enough that I had to clear the driveway. Probably would have been more if it wasn’t so heavy that it packed down.
Curious to see the totals from the southtowns, specifically Ellicottville.
That will work great. But it couldn’t hurt to try craigslist first. I got a 3 year old 30" 10hp craftsman for $250 last year. New belts and quick carb clean and it runs great. It was from an old guy who couldn’t handle it anymore.

Good Call. Found a few Ariens already for like half price, and I know I can run them into the ground…probably literally too. THe nice thing about getting it from Depot is that it comes assembled and they deliver it to your driveway. I’m looking on craigslist though.
The best part about the old timers is everything is over made. All steel and no plastic

+1
I have a 70’s Bolens and the only thing plastic is the end of the throttle and auger handles. It starts first pull every time and has not given me an issue in the past 8 yrs owning it.
WGRZ has people posting shots of the flight arrival/departure screens at the airport on twitter. They must really be trying to run with this so they dont have to go back to reporting on white van sightings.
I bought mine off Craiglist. Needed new tires, a muffler and a tune up. Paid $100 for the snowblower and $150 in parts/labor at schaubs on Seneca St. and now it runs like a top. Hell, I’ll probably make money off it at this point…
Also, this “storm” was once again way too hyped. News 4 was the only station keeping their projected snow totals to a minimum and they still have to reduce them.
