2014/2015 Snowmobile Season Thread

I sold the Rev 800 and bought @Birdman64’s 06 rev 600 sdi gade both on Thursday. I put 140 flawless miles on it yesterday. Went from East of Wolcott to Webster and back. I was hoping to ride next weekend in Erie but I doubt it. I have a white hood and console coming and I’m going to source a taller track this summer and ditch the taillight structure. Other than that just some maintenance. I’m in love.

Congrats on the purchase. Looks sharp

So what are you going to do for a taillight?

probably an LED strip at the end of the tunnel on some little bracket.

edit: or maybe LED’s recessed into the grab bar, haven’t looked into it that far though

440 seat and tail light or 03 trunk and tail looks good too… I think so anyways lol

Yea, I’ve been looking. I’d rather make something I think.

@travisn, sharp looking sled. I’ll agree that taillight bracket is a joke… so stupid. Anything will be an upgrade…

Now with more sharpness…

Not really a great way to end the season. This happened last weekend up in Old Forge. Old Guy (in his 70s), was coming the other way on the Ski Doo and either blew the curve or just didn’t plan on staying in his lane. Ended up riding right in front of me. I had nowhere to go as we was blocking the whole trail. I hit him broadside and I flew over the handlebars about 30 feet down the trail. Luckily I saw it coming and had the sense to stand up before the impact or else I would have gotten the bars in the chest and been a lot worse off.

By the looks of it, I thought he would be missing a leg.

Almost no damage to the Pantera. Scratched the spindle and popped a rivet out of the bulkhead. Rode it the rest of the weekend.

We both ended up walking away. I had/still have a huge bruise just above my right knee.

Holy shit. Glad you’re OK. That ski doo is toast.

Side note. Did the 70 year old guy have the Helmet with the purple mowhawk?

Yikes. Glad you’re OK. Thanks for proving Arctic Cat quality here. Death defying crash, you get back on and rode it all weekend. SkiDoo ends up ready for the scrapyard.

Thanks guys, I consider myself very lucky it wasn’t worse.

I thought initially it was his, but after seeing his age, I am pretty sure it was someone in his group. There were 3 of them riding together, one girl, and the other was a younger guy, it was probably his.

Yeah, the Pantera took it like a champ. I didn’t even inspect my sled at first, just figured the right A arms would have been torn off. After I got a couple pictures I looked at it closer and realized there was nothing wrong with it. I also replaced a bent carbide the next day.

I’m not going to create a new thread for '15/'16 since we apparently are skipping winter this year.

Never been sledding before. Caved into peer pressure-- picked up an '01 mxz 700 today. Looking forward to some snowfall in February-March.

Any tips I should know?
What are you guys using to make the maps with your route-- I assume there’s an APP of some sort but I cant seem to find it.
Is there any reason to get a heated shield around here or is that for when it gets realllly cold. I have a car helmet and dont want to have to buy another just for the shield.

You’re really going to want a snowmobile helmet or your head is going to freeze. I went a couple seasons without a heated shield and I kick myself for it now that I’ve switched. All it takes is one time out riding and dealing with an icing up shield to make you realize how important being able to see is.

I tried to use a car helmet. That shit fogged up within seconds. Either wear a mx helmet w/ goggles or get a used sled helmet w/ heated shield off CL.

The maps that I post come from garmin basecamp. I carry a GPS device w/ a NY state trail map. There is also the Polaris trail map app that helps when the GPS data is incorrect. Nothing beats a local club map, tho.

10% of snowmobiling is being confused about where you are or how far away the next gas station is.

+2 on getting a sled helmet and heated shield
I’ve been using the Polaris app for a few years now, works great but chews up a decent amount of battery life on iPhone. Always good idea to grab a local map of the trails you will be riding as the apps aren’t always 100% accurate as trails get changed slightly.

look up “the rider scope” on your apps. its a good snowmobiling app to have

+3 Heated shield and a balaclava.

Nys has an updated app for 2016 with turn by turn navigation now.

This is the app I used all the time. By far the best one out there and can’t wait to try out the turn by turn this year.
