Yes it’s warm out now but none of the weather hobbyist people that do long range forecasting would agree with that.

Well I guess I can join the sled club this year… Picked up an 06 ski-doo MXZ-X 600sdi a month ago. Already regretting my purchase. lol
If it stays that warm through January I’m just launching the boat.
don’t say that lol ^^^^ my backup is an 06 500ss and I bought a 12 600 etec over summer…so in my head I blame myself for the shitty winter so far, new sled, new helmet, new coat, and I went through my truck, trailer, and tow truck so they were all ready for the snowfall this year. FAIL
I am way too busy working on the house this year to ride… I hope it stays warm.
I remember that last year on new years there was no snow anywhere, not even tug hill. then a week later they got a bunch and steve and I went up for the first ride.
First day trails opened in my neck of the woods was 1.07.15. It got better and better from there on to the end of the season. I remember fixing up my driveways potholes on Christmas Eve in a short sleeve shirt last year. Have too see what next year brings.
As much as I’m disappointed with no snow for riding, not to mention Christmas, I feel for the businessea and people who depend on “normal” winter weather.
I went up to Snodeo in Old Forge this past weekend. 2 years ago I was up there riding, it was -25 degrees at night, this year it was 50. Depressing, and it looks like it’s going to go back up to the mid 40’s for Christmas through New Years.
YES! there’s so many people out there that are so happy there’s no snow but they don’t realize that this weather has sclosed a lot of business’s in the past, I can think of a few bars/resturants that closed a few years ago from us having bad winters…ski country and plenty of snowmobile destinations and stops on the trail count on snow fall to help bring people in the area
In regards to those people.
This just popped up in my Facebook memories thing for today. The post said: “2014/2015 snowmobile season opening day! 37 and raining. Not a great start.”
Hunting season ended a little earlier last year I guess. 12/17/15 looks almost exactly like 12/17/14 except this year (minus the almost melted snow piles from 2014) but it’s 10 degrees warmer.
This cheers me up a bit remembering there was no snow this time last year too, and I got a lot of great riding in last season
shopping for a sled now, debating between a 600 or 800 twin…I like the ZR600s & ZR800s of the early 00s era.
ZR’s were always pretty decent.
They’re fast and handle great when it’s smooth but man that riding position beats you up when the trails are rough. I went from a 2000 ZR600 to my 2006 Skidoo MXZ and it’s a whole different world. Rider forward FTW.
Skidoo came up with it and between 2003 when they released it and 2013 every other manufacturer switched to that style.
My other options have been MXZ800s which seem to be a bit more plentiful. The rider forward stuff rocks, I agree, but out of my price range. I’m looking to spend $2000 on something that I can enjoy and tinker with. Don’t mind doing some maintenance, which I’m sure anything that old will need.
if you can up your price range 500 bucks or so there’s a good chance you can get into a rider forward sled. I used to be a Polaris guy but that quickly changed when I bought my 06 rev (have a 12 now) so I highly recommend going that direction if you can…and as for the 600/800 debate…get a 600, especially for your first sled. I have been riding my whole life and I was thinking of going 800 this year when I upgraded but its not necessary…I have friends that ride 800’s and talk big about how fast they are and there sled this, there sled that, but they couldn’t come close to keeping up with my on my 06 500ss when we rode, 800’s are overkill around here unless your getting into drag racing or something like that as @95dime does
You can find rider forward Rev chassis sleds around $2000 that need tinkering. Plus you will enjoy riding it.
I used to be a “I don’t need to spend $4000 (at the time, 08-09) on a rider forward sled, I have a good enough MXZ 700” guy. Then I rode a Rev chassis, and then I bought one. Logged 4500~ miles in the past two seasons and I am certain that would have never been attainable on an older sled, my body would have been smoked after 50 miles.
If you’re stuck with old technology sleds the early 2000s Polaris Edge chassis rides very good for what it is, especially if you can find an M-10 one. You can find those XC’s pretty easily for $1500. Compared to a REV or any other rider forward they don’t hold a candle obviously.
