after being around a c7 and riding in it, I can tell you hands down, LUST AWAY.
All I ever read about with the Z06 is the massive amount of heat soak from the supercharger, shutting down on tracks and barely making more than a lap.
You won’t ever own one so who cares
The car pulls back timing based on IAT temps because its a factory car with lots of protections in place to live 100k+
A quick tune and its not an issue its a conservative tune issue and not actually a cooling issue
Anyone see the stock auto Z06 with slick run a 10.3x 1/4 mile … ////win
Wow, gotta Link?
That’s impressive.
I’m curious to see how the new 8spd transmissions hold up.
My guess is just fine the A6 in the C6 holds upto 600-650rwhp and the A8 is supposed to be much stronger.
On a sheet of paper the 'Vette’s look incredible. In the real world they are having issue after issue with the engines, and engine management systems. Hopefully they get the bugs worked out without requiring major changes.
I haven’t been following close. All types or just the zo6? What kind of issues?
10.3 is legit as hell. Lets see boltons, pulley, tune!
The ZF8 speed seems to be a stout trans. I don’t see reports of failures coming up like on the DSG 7 speed thing in the S4’s

All types. They were popping motors left and right. Car and Driver blew blew the engine on their long term test car, blaming oil contamination on the failure. The inside scoop is that the displacement-on-demand isn’t so friendly at 7k. They use the same type of massive lifters that collapse as are used on the truck engines (5.3’s). They are fine at low speeds, but sustained high-rpm is a no go. As for the Z06, it gets heat soaked very quickly and goes into a “safe” mode that cuts power dramatically.
The implosion called for a complete replacement of the LT1 V8 (under warranty), and General Motors says that they are currently reviewing their manufacturing processes, to ensure that this fluke won’t affect other models. While that piece of the story comes as a relief, murmurs of similar engine failures exist within the C7-driving community. And though the issue is (thankfully) covered by warranty, engine failure coming that prematurely is at the very least inconvenient, and at the most, certainly disconcerting to owners of the car.
Maybe this is just normal for a new car rollout, to get the bugs worked out. This car has been under the microscope since it debuted, so it’s possible that these failures are blown out of proportion.
First off, even though these engines pass by me every day, I still wouldn’t prefer to own one, considering all vettes have terrible resale, these will be on every corner as with every past generation, and second what do you know? You troll me behind a computer screen and know nothing about anything about me. You can keep your vette. And before you say something about a Viper, you’re right LZ, I don’t have one and may not for a long time, as much as it pains me, I took the 45K I had set aside and decided to be a grown up and buy rental property instead, even though it did truly pain me that now I may not have my V10 dream as soon as I had hoped, but the way the Viper market is, a Gen IV that’s already stacked with 600+ HP will be in the 40K range in the next few years. Shame on me.
@joelster, you’re spot on with everything, I haven’t heard of any fixes.
I know the guy selling the black z06 with gold wheels through BJ’s (Barry) along with maybe 5-6 guys with Z06’s and they haven’t had any issues. They really beat their cars too. I know another 10-15 guys with regular C7’s and they seem fine. Anyone doing a cam swap should replace the lifters if you’re planning on letting her sing to 7500rpms.
Full exhaust, tune, intake cars are running 11.5 in the regular C7 which is pretty damn impressive to me as well.
Talking to LMR and some of the local speeds shops down here, they said the first couple batches of cars had some issues but I think they are pretty square now.
That is disappointing and depressing carry on.
My point was less about you owning one as much as bitching and repeating shit you heard online I know a number of people with C7s and no issues and the couple I know with the z06 again have no issues.
Basically the exact same thing ultradrive said above.
I don’t see why people who are enthusiasts/fans of “competing cars” always seem to feel the need to discount the competing cars. I probably used to do the same thing, oh well.
But seriously, seems ubengineering is hating on the z06 based on some kind of Viper related insecurity.
They’re both dope and I’ll never own either one of them
I have a viper and 3 vettes at the moment. If I had to keep one I would choose the viper every time. The new C7 is growing on me though.
The viper is designed as a race car, vette is designed as an assembly line car. Both rock though and my vettes are faster.
Here is a dude that sounds like he is ripping on it:
