2015 Mustang (the new detroit war isn't all about horsepower)

I’m loving the idea of this “voodoo” v8, and of coarse it looks marvelous.

The new engine options definitely piqued my interest.

I loved how the 11-12s looked and was worried I wouldn’t like the new one but based on the caranddriver 360 view I like the 15. I love that it is getting smaller and lighter.

The engines have me intrigued as well. Love the flat plane crank idea. Most people ordering a hi performance mustang won’t mind a little extra vibration.

From the Caranddriver article
“This EcoBoost V-8 will produce between 550 and 600 horses. It will power a Shelby GT350–branded model that eventually will take over from the GT500, as Ford is desperate to discontinue that car’s costly and thirsty Trinity.”

The trinity gets 24mpg highway with 662hp. Evos and STis get 23mpg highway with 300hp. For being the most fuel efficient car over 600hp the GT500 is doing pretty good, but I don’t blame them for trying to make something better.

Not too bad. The interior is definitely an improvement.
Ford has definitely stepped up their game, Chrysler has done a good amount too… then there’s complacent GM.

Any idea why they had to blur the legs of the driver???

Might have been hiding identifying marks of the driver that let C&D take pics of the hush-hush new car.

Do we know what the new gen is going to be called yet? (SN95, New Edge, S197 etc)

5.0 is also said to be @ 500 horsepower late in the initial year, or early in the second. I really can’t wait to see this new, svelte pony kicking some serious ass. It’s going to be sold in Europe as well, so interior fit and finish will be expected to be high.

Current car is 3500 lbs.

A 3100 lb Mustang that’s a foot shorter and 6.5" narrower definitely has my attention.

Sexy

I agree. 3100 lbs is sexy

Im itching for details to answer the zl1 camaro…supposed gt350…cant wait to get my hands on one

They’re stating now 200lbs is the more likely weight reduction. 3300lbs and at least 415 horse.

Chassis

The introduction of an independent rear suspension, not seen in Mustangdom outside of the 1999–2004 SVT Cobra, will improve handling, ride comfort, and packaging. This should address some key Mustang criticisms and lend it credibility when taking on its European contemporaries in markets where the pony-car genre isn’t sustained by nostalgia and cheap fuel, as it is here. A new platform—code-named “S550”—will underpin this new Mustang, and through that architecture, Ford is expecting to shed some 200 pounds from the current car’s roughly 3500-pound curb weight.

kinda has a evo/fr-s look. i like it

More:

I’d be interested in the 4 cylinder turbo with 300+ hp.

I’m just curious why?

I don’t know why the turbo 4 makes it suddenly cooler the current V6 makes 300/270 with what I would guess is broader torque curve.

The V8 makes 420/390

Lower weight and better weight distribution?, at least that is why I would want to magazine race it.

Although there was only a 60 pound difference between the V6 and V8 here:

I’m not one to need a v8. 4 with a turbo is plenty enough for me. I believe its similar to the speed3 motor, just rwd. Its enough to have fun and not get in trouble. Doubting it will be much difference in weight from the 4 to the 8, but possible as well. Might be a more even weight distribution front to back.
The 6 was N/A, correct?

Wow def. a serious improvement in looks, and I already loved the way it looks.

Could be the best looking mustang ever, in my opinion.

Let’s not get crazy here.
