225 or 215 NT01 ?

Hello! Currently I’ve been doing track days on our street tires (215/40R17 Azenis on Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2) and my skill level is finally up to par to move to r-comps. I have picked the NT01 as per the recommendation from some of my track buddies. They come in either 215/45R17 or 225/45R17 and these will be going on a set of Rota SVN 17x7.5 +45. Do you think I should squeeze the 225’s on there? Will I need a 5mm spacer?

Oh I should also mention I have the Detroit Tuned 17" BBK up front and the Team Dynamics 17x7 +45’s clear it just fine.

Another side note we’re going to change up our alignment settings… tell me what you think!

Old Settings:
-2F, -1R Camber
1/8" toe out rear

New Settings:
-2.25F, -1.5R Camber
1/8" toe out rear

Mods: 2005 Mini Cooper S - erisue’s Garage - rspeed.org :: motorsports culture

Thanks!

245s. Don’t waste your time with the smaller ones. And they fit no problem.

LOL I’m going to get the 225’s

i woulda gone with 245 square setup… but ok

Let me clarify a little bit…

I am sponsored by Nitto with the 240 and they extended my discount pricing to the mini cooper so that’s why I’m getting the NT01’s not to mention they’re a great long-lasting track day tire.

As far as the 245’s, I think I’d have a lot of issues fitting them even with some extreme camber and spacers. The wheels I just ordered are 17x7.5 rotas +45 so I may need spacers even to fit the 225’s. Also I think they will be more than enough tire for my needs.

So if you already had your mind made up, why ask?

I didn’t have my mind made up lol… well save for the tires, just not size. 245’s would be pretty hard to fit without rubbing on a mini. There just isn’t enough room. I was up in the air about 215/225, but I think I’ll be able to squeeze the 225’s in there.

No need to get testy

On 7.5s, 225 will barely sit flush with the wheel face. 245 will bulge about 1/2" on each side of the wheel face. You never know until you try, and I’m sure someone has a 245/40/17 tire laying around that you could test mount… (not like I don’t have stacks of tires in my garage).

I’m not testy, it’s just aggravating a little bit - but the truth is that you are looking to have fun, not got the fastest that you are capable of. So any tire that isn’t a street tire will give you more fun, regardless of it’s size.

Agreed. The NT01 spec on their site says 8-8.5-9 for 245’s and for 235/40 also. They’re also just a ridiculously tall tire it seemes (25.88) as compared to the 225/45 (24.8). I’m just getting them to have a little fun on my track days.

If the Mini has height adjustable coilovers, you should be able to get the 225s to fit without much trouble. They just wont be HELLA FRUSH/slammed/stanced.

Why step up to more expensive tires? I think you’d be much better server doing more track days on any freaking tire you can get. Unless you just want faster lap times without having to put in the time on driver development.

lol @ ridiculously tall tire being 25.88" tall

^^^ I was thinking the same thing.

I’m out driving the street tires that are on there now and I feel that I have enough experience to move up to an r-comp. I’ve put my share of seat time in and I could care less about lap times. Not to mention my price on a set of these NT01’s is less than most sets of street tires

Heh, when stock height is 24.6" and we run 23.8" street tires, 25.88 is a big jump!!!

I guess you’ll never know until you try… Or ask one of the many autox guys that run the combination already.
