240SX good starter car?..

hey people,.

I’m kindof embarrased to say this, cuz’ I think you guys 'll laugh at me.

but, here goes.

my dream car is a DSM, Eagle Talon TSi AWD… but, I can’t afford it+incurance.

I don’t want an MR-2, due to it’s engine mount+maintenance+incurance.

so, I’m thinking about is a 240SX. I hear so many good things about them.

(I started a Spec-V thread, but I also can’t afford that bummer).

so yeah, please, imput, imput, imput.

Personally I think they are a great car. My brother bought a 1990 brand new, and sold it to my wife about 4 years ago. It has never required any major work, and just keeps runing strong. It has 320,000 km’s on it now. No gear grind, no engine noises, still lots of power, no electrial issues. Just a great car all around. Lots of power for a stock 2.4 liter engine in my opinion. It’s a car that always has gotten great reviews and holds it’s value pretty well. So yeah, it is a great starter car and beyond if you find one in good shape. If you want to talk about it, we will be at the Red Deer run this Sunday unless it rains. Look for a red one parked beside a red 300…like probably others!

grab urself a 91+ s13 with a good body n a decent drivetrain and then just dont bag the shit out of it and then when u can afford it, swap in an sr/ca/rb and u’l have urself a fun, fast car !
be prepared to shell out at least 5 grand or so for good condition s13’s though…

For the amount people are asking for bone stock S13s these days, I’d just get an MR2 instead.

Don’t buy a cheap one. Look for one that is owned by an older man or woman. I bought one from a young guy, he bought it from a young guy etc, and it was the biggest piece of shit ever.

I have a 1990 Talon TSI, and despite the crap comments i get from all you nissan guys  its been a solid car that makes lots of power from minor mods. 450cc injectors are stock, the 14b stock turbo flows a lot more than a t25 that the 2g’s got.

engine/tranny-wise it’s been solid for the year i’ve owned it. the only things to go on it were the alternator, thermostat and a tie rod. fun car, but not the greatest chassis for an auto-x car. if you’re looking for some straight line fun on the street, its a blast, but there are lemon talons out there as well as solid ones.

btw i’m selling mine and bought a 180sx

tsi was a good car but i miss RWD, and got tired of the straight line.

well said RWD And AWD is the only way to go, one little change is “there are lemon talons” to “there are a lot of lemon Talons”

^^ don’t listen to this guy, he doesnt even personally know anyone besides me thats owned one.

:stuck_out_tongue:

i have known guys that owned them, and they sold the car, because the tranny went, with other problems to the vehicle

lol… my friends talon turbo siezed.

funny shit.

ha ha , me and a guy from work just went halfers on a TSI for like $500 cuz the timing belt broke and the guy is moving to Ontario, and didn’t want to fix the car. So far it looks like we only need 4 valves.

good find

LOL to the Talon Turbo Siezed

the turbo seized? mine still has the original turbo, 245,000km. I guess if you don’t turbo time, you deserve for your turbo to fail.

not that i’m defending DSM’s too much, but 90% of the reason they are “unreliable” is because the previous owner was a 16 year old who could afford one, and bagged the crap out of it and didn’t take care of it.
