OK I NEED HELP ASAP I ACCIDENTALY DAMAGED THE SCREW THREADS ON THE HEAD These screw holes support the valve cover. Oil is now leaking.
accidentally damaged?
like broke bolts off?
cross threaded them?
you need a tap/die set? on sale at canadian tire $40 from $100
if the screws are still in there, drill them out
then you need to re-thread the head and go with slightly larger screws
i over screwed them. To be exact striped the threads on the head, and how much for the re-thread thing?
If you want to fix it properly, what you need to do is drill it out, and use a heli-coil. its basically a threaded insert, which makes the hole the proper size again
I had to to do that on 3 of my valve cover bolts some time ago. I’ve got the helicoil kit for it still. Let me know if you are interested.
Or you can not buy the helicoil and just drill and tap it to the next size of fastener…
