2stroke dirtbike question

I’m going to look at an older CR125 tomorrow most likely. The guy said the bike had no powerband. I was wondering if anyone knew what could cause this or if it may be an easy fix Thanks

Needs a top end at BEST… Id stay away from it unless its real cheap in which case a top end is pretty much cake. What year, I can get you a pre 98 for less then $800

you mean get me a top end or whole bike?

I’m looking for something maybe around $500

whole bike… I wouldnt pay $500 if that bike ran MINT tho it DOES look good for an 89…

PMing you nao

edit: fuckit AIM is easier

i think the guy means no powervalve . as most newer ones have a valve that switches on and off with rpm , not a bad thing just really doggie till ya get in the rpm,s

Old bikes have them too, but yea your probably right in which case it’d be a cheap $30 part.

89,s do have the valve i see . not much to em it may be a older motor or it froze up as most are

Bingo.

it will need a top end anyways.

Get something in the mid-late 90’s…stay away from something that old.

If it was just a valve it would be FIXED. It needs a top end (or rings at the very least).

E-diagnostics. :lol do a compression test. I’m gonna say if thats good its a power valve or could be cracked reeds…

on a 2 stroke a compression test is as simple as trying to push down the kick start with your hand…

if you cant do it with your hand, it doesnt need a top end…if you can, time to rebuild.

So whats the issue then?

1st problem is its a 2-stroke.

The thing is so simple. You can toss a piston and rings in it for under $50. Do a quick hone on the cyl. Call it a day.

As stated, you can pickup a mid 90’s bike for a few bucks more with more available parts.

I think I’ll go that route and pick one up this winter.

You can pickup a 92-98 250 between 600-1k.

yea, 2 strokes are dirt cheap now, I just sold my cr500 for a few weeks ago cheap. THAT bike was fucking sick, but the effort to start that thing outweighed the fun lol. 250 is the bike to get

I rode SPROCKIT’s CR500 a decent amount of times, I’m 125lbs and never had a problem getting it started

Must have been like JUST been rebuilt and the last yr they were made becuase those fuckin things are NOTORIOUS for tearing shoes and ankles APART when trying to start! So much fucking compression, I seriously couldnt use a regular shoe to kick that bitch, had to have boots on. Theres a trick for the 500’s, but still.
