3 series exhaust

My dads ride is a 2008 BMW 335i. He wants to keep the car stock for the most part, but one thing he is interested in is better exhaust noise. Hes looking for good parts to a achieve a moderately louder, deeper exhaust sound. Obviously it;d be best if the system also improved performance.

Basically we;re looking for suggestions from anyone, if you drive that car, something similar, or nothing close at all. thanks

Take the resonator off go to First Try

most german cars will have a throaty “domestic~ish” sound by removing one of the resonators. be loud down low at throttle tip in, but get fairly quiet at cruise/high speeds.

performace wise, im surewhacking one of the resonators will let off some back pressure. but a nice cat back will help more. The stock exhaust is a fairly nice piece oem. The down pipes are a tight fit to begin w/. but you could probably squeeze a bigger pipe down through. Not sure if anyone has downpipes yet, and none of my customers have asked for it so i have yet to do downpipes. Downpipes deffinitely wont be cheap due to cats.

companies-- Bastuck, Eisenmann, ac schnitzer, and a slue of other compaines. most companies are doing muffler swaps-- basically running oem pipe and swapping out rear muffler.

if it were my money, and i were to buy a off the shelf cat back, i’d get the active autowerke’s cat back. shit is not cheap though-- like $1900. pretty much any company i mentioned above is not cheap. hell, the bmw market is not cheap in general. So for $1900, i’d make my own stainless exhaust.

I would buy dinan:

these guys sell downpipes:

these guys make a nice cat-back:

don’t know anything about these guys, they work with borla to make a cat-back for the 135:

those Dinan mufflers look like they are from stainless works
could buy direct and have them fitted for your car for lot less than price of dinan.

looks liike i am going after wrong market lol
need to jump over to BMW for exhaust. they are some of the easier cars to build exhaust too

I have seen and heard a few different 335 exhausts, the most mature sounding and best looking one was the Dinan. Nice sound, not tinny or raspy. Expensive but nice

I am a big fan of the Remus Exhaust. Sounds delicious!

Same, but with louder mufflers:

With aftermarket midpipe

Eisenmann sounds good, too.

What about Vishnu? I think I saw that they made and exhaust and some kind of re-programmer that made some big power

Vishnu makes an ecu for the car… i’m not sure about exhaust. but i have a 1 series so don’t know about the 335… they have been on the market a year longer so might have more R&D

I think Vishnu does make an exhaust for the 335.

Is his car a coupe or sedan?

Most of the names dropped in here are quality products, but I’d put the Dinan system head&shoulders above the rest.

It’s not the cheapest option by any means, but the fit & finish + Dinan matching BMWs warranty is something you aren’t going to find anywhere else.

The other thing which he may want to hold out for would be the exhaust from BMWs own “Performance Parts” line.

http://accessories.bmwusa.com/PerformanceVehicleSelection.aspx

Their site does not currently show an exhaust, but I believe it will be available within a year.

I am going with a Dinan ECU upgrade… price is beat but in the end it’ll be what I want for a daily driver. I heard the bmw performance tune is suppose to be out as well. isnt’ the performance parts is only coming catback… which is nice here, but sucks overall??

Dinans exhausts on previous gen 3 series always sounded nice. Just a tad throatier than stock, but not a whole lot louder. Would be good for a Dads car:)

Thanks for all the ideas guys! and to answer the question asked earlier its the convertable

BOOOOOOO

let us know what he decides on! I have an appointment next monday to talk to the bmw service manager about BMW performance tuning… might be worth asking about the exhaust.

^Methinks you need to bring that little beast to one of the BMW meets

when and where? does the m3 chick show up??? :yum:

x2. they sound so nice

With Dinan parts comes the Dinan warranty. I would go that direction because our 335i is on its 2nd engine and wont stop throwing codes. We had a hard enough time with our BMW dealership to pay for the problem since we had the Active Autowerke chip, which to them is a big no no. So we ended up having to pay for the labor of installing the new motor, even though what happened to ours happened to a couple of 335i’s that i know of.
