300hp E36 M3 goes down

Driving back home from my girlfriends house, I see this M3 weave in and out of traffic to get next to me. We both approach a red light, and he asks me “what do you have in there?”

I just tell him “supercharged v8” So he asks if I wanted to run em from the light, so of course I said yes.

I get to third gear and shut it down, because I basically lost sight of him in my rear view. He gets up next to me at the next light, and asks, what all I got done… and I told him intake and exhaust… and he’s like “damn, I got like 300hp” I would’ve asked him what he had done, or if it was RWHP or BHP. But I’m pretty BMW illiterate so I wouldn’t know if he was bs’n or not.

But anyway, it was a good run, he took his loss like a man.

If it was an e36 M3, I doubt it had 300HP…the U.S. version e36 M3 (1995-1999) came with either a 3.0L(1995) or 3.2L(1996-99) I-6 Engine producing only 240HP at the crank. They usually dyno around 195-205 RWHP. In Europe they were fitted with a completely different engine putting out 286hp (3.0L) and then eventually 321HP (3.2L)…some type of forced induction is most likely needed to get 300HP at the crank of a U.S e36 M3…which if that was the case, he would probably have over 400HP…not 300HP.

Active Autowerks Stage II Turbo Kit for OBDI M3 (1995)

1995 M3 - STAGE 2

Power: 430 BHP @ 6850 rpm
Torque: 425 ft/lbs @ 4100 rpm
0 - 60 mph 4.2sec
Top speed 170+ mph
1/4 mile 12.2 sec
Turbo Boost 11psi

Active Autoworks Stage II Turbo Kit for OBDII M3 (1996-99)

Power: 459 BHP at the engine
359 WHP @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 367.7 Ft/lbs @ 4500 rpm
Spec Data Full Dyno data sheet
0 - 60 mph Under 5.0 sec
Top speed 170+ mph
1/4 mile 12.2 sec approximated
Turbo Boost 14 psi

With minor mods such as software, intake and exhaust, the e36 will be lucky to squeeze out 225RWHP…which is obviously no match for a supercharged V8 putting out well over 400HP. To get to 300 HP at the crank, the e36 would have to gain around 60RWHP…that’s pretty difficult for a small 6 cylinder engine without forced induction…and a turbo or Super Charger kit for that car costs $7K-$10K.

If it was an e46 M3 (2001-present), then you would most likely have beaten it but it would not be a speck in your rear view mirror…although, I’ve been on road courses in my 2001 M3 with 2003+ Cobras and they really don’t pull away from me at all down the straights (or pass me)…probably because my exit speeds (from the turns) are faster…I don’t know.

I know there is at least one M3 floating around here (or was at one time) that has a AA Turbo Kit…it is silver with a carbon fiber hood…the former owner now drives a 600+HP Supra.

Whats different between e46 M3 Engine 333 HP and the 2003 e46 M3 CSL Engine…360 HP. I mean whats done to it to make it have almost 30 more hp. Is it sold in the US?

Unfortunately, it’s not sold in the U.S. The CSL is a lighweight, stripped down version of the M3 that is more performance oriented. It weighs a few hundred pounds less…there’s a lot of carbon fiber and other lightweight materials…actually, the entire roof is made of carbon fiber.

With regards to the engine, the only difference is the carbon fiber plenum/intake and exhaust system which works with an entirely different engine management system.

In addition, it has different interior with lightweight bucket seats…it also has no radio or AC.

It also has a redesigned SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) transimission, wider track, different suspension, modified brakes, a different front bumper trunk lid and rear diffuser.

whats his et?

unless he’s low 12’s, then prob not

 ~$55K and no radio or AC. x 45094060654. And I thought the germans were smart?

HAHA you’re joking right!!!

:stick: :stick: :stick: :stick: :stick: :stick:

whats his ET??? Wait, he never goes to the track? what are those HP figures on that webpage…WAIT!!! are those the base numbers that are quoted with the kit?..you mean he never dyno’d!!

BENCHRACER!!!

The base price for the CSL is actually £58K…which I believe is around $103K…not worth the price…you could find a nice 911 GT3 for a little more.

ET???

okay okay, let me rephrase…
Heres a local that will give you a run for your money…with a better driver behind the wheel…

???sideways? I dunno, he never had it to the 1320. He should have some times as of sept. 12 ESE’s track day at PRP

heres a video from Pittsburgh Thunder:

I’ve never really seen a road test for the CSL that has ETs…I think BMW states 0-60 in 4.6…they’re published time for the regular M3 is 4.8…

I would think the CSL should be able to do the 1/4 mile in the 12s…heck, the regular e46 M3 can run in the 12s…if driven well.

Here’s a vid of someone running 12.5x in a reg. M3…only mods are pulleys and lighter wheels. I’ve also seen video of him running 12.49@109 and the driver has run a completely stock M3 in 12.7.

kmurph, the turbo’d m3 u speak of is now for sale at a smaller car dealer in butler. My buddy jay raced him in his m5 and was neck and neck with him, i wasn’t impressed. Don’t get me wrong the m5 is a very fast sedan but i thought the m3 should do a lil better for all the work that kid has done.

I would think that it should be faster than a M5…but I guess not. Maybe his turbo kit didn’t have all the ‘bells and whistles’.

I’ve talked to people that have seen that M3 at the track and I guess the times were not that impressive for the amount of work done…I think it only managed to get in the mid 13s…obviously, the driver make a difference - don’t know how good he was.

from what i’ve heard he is not that good, but the race was from a roll so alot of the driver skill was eliminated. He has a stage 1.5 kit so its not a balls to the wall setup like the stage 2 but still should be faster.

blah BMWs are for pussies

Whatever…Maybe you should try driving on a track that actually has turns and is longer than 1320 ft…then we’ll see who the real pussy is
