Pretty unexpected run in tonight on my way to a friend’s house
Pulled up to a light(driving “aggressively”). I didn’t really pay much attention to anyone around me. Moments before the light turned green I saw a bumper creaping the light. Figured it was just someone jumping the light. I did not expect a race.
The light turns green, I took off with some aggression(still not paying attention to others) but I certainly did not launch the car. The traction control was on(no fun). All the sudden, a convertible 3-series just blasts by me. It is at this point that I hear the turbo spooling. I decided to bite the lure. I skipped the 2-3 shift and planted the accelerator.
At this point, he is quite a bit ahead already and his automatic transmission is giving him some good gain on his shifts. I dont usually powershift, and even if I did, traction control would have shut me down. A car was in his lane, so I let off the throttle and gave him some room(low in third gear, no idea how fast we were going). It was now wide open and he moved back over to the right lane. I am also now able to notice this guy is at least 50 years old and has his wife in the car. I figured he was going to let off the gas pretty soon. Well, I started to run out of gear in 3rd and found myself shifting away into 4th gear. At this point he is easilly a few cars ahead. I kept at it up until around 110-120 when we both shut down and hit a red light(we were in a 45 zone ).
I think he thought that I was going to be super pissed. I said “Holy shit man, I was not expecting you to do that. That thing fucking moves”. He laughed, said it had an upgraded performance package and what not. Also mentioned that he had JUST taken delivery that day. He told me that next time he would take the car out of first gear(joking obviously).
Cool guy, and his wife seemed cool with it too. I’ve been looking to play around with some other cars since I bought the damn thing.
All in all, once I got into it I stayed right on his tail and kept right up. I was hanging with him, but even if we both got good starts, he would have beaten me.
