Well as i was checking my o2 volts with my scanner i see another factor and that the TPS reading at idle is saying 20%, now this is at idle… I check for PCM contraversies and it says the tranny position and tps are in contravercy, while the tranny is at 2.4% the TPS is at 20% at idle. Anyone know whats up or expreience this? I messed with it a lil bit last night and gonna go mess with ti again so maybe 20% at idle is normal? I went to advanced and returned the TPS under warrenty and to no avail…same reading, even disconnected the battery to see if it would relearn or reset.
TPS sensors must be calibrated for relative position before it will stop throwing codes. It’s super simple. The TPS should be able to pivot slightly, with the two retaining bolts finger tight.
Put the car in the ON postion but don’t start it…back probe the SIGNAL wire on the TPS with a multimeter. Rotate it until the multimeter reads less than 0.5V (this will be the closed throttle reference) and tighten it. It should be fine after that.
The jeeps 4.0 are not adjustable like that.
Oh, didn’t know that…not sure what to tell you then. Do you have a service manual?
Another possibility is the fact that it’s freezing cold outside…does this Jeep have some sort of Idle Air Control or Fast-idle thermo valve? That would explain the unusually high throttle position at start-up.
Nah IAC is fine i just cleaned it. I took the TPS off and scanned and it was down to 4%, put it back on and back up again, now you dao have to twist the sensor a tad when installing to fit the butterfly end valve on the sensor itself and thats where it is getting the extra 16%. My previous one was like that as well. Maybe it has to be around 18-20% at idle but i highly doubt it
