4 Rotor RX7

Here’s an all-motor import running 10s without boost or spray.
The noise off idle is impressive, sounds a bit like a high-compression V8.
At WOT it the noise turns to an F1 banshee wail.

Of course, it probably burns a quart of oil per run.

Seen this video a ton of times, and I love it each and every time!

yuppers, lots of videos floating around. R26B powered. Was one of the motors I considered putting in my car. I can machine/outsource for all the necessary parts to make that motor, including the 787B variable intake tract. About $11K when all said and done. Est 400ftlbs of torque and more like 600BHP.

I know fuck-all about rotary engines. Is that a pump gas motor, set up like that?

Easily 100 octane, wouldn’t surprise me if it’s on C-16. There’s no way the R26B can survive on any pump, unless it’s been seriously hampered/detuned from the start. Motor is so prone to apex breakage.

i read somewhere that engineering and developing that intake cost something rediculous like 850,000$ when it was all said and done. just the intake i mean. lol i love mazda.

The apex issue I’ve heard before. That’s a perennial problem for high output rotaries, isn’t it? I love that the tags on some of the clips I’ve seen of cars running that setup (while claiming 500-600 HP) say “perfectly streetable”. Aviation fuel is not “streetable”.

Losing an apex seal every 1k miles isnt real streetable either.

Back then I wouldn’t doubt it one bit. These days there are controllers and programming out there to run such a setup via 12v stepper motors. Making the actual intake tract assembly isn’t too difficult, however tuning it for the exact setup and driving parameters is. You could actually run it off a MS program for a stepper IAC/TB motor control function( like Audi throttle body) and program it to work off a load VS RPM map in the computer. Wicked fun shit and if I have more money to blow I’d do it in a blink.

Word, and the main reson why I never went ahead with the R26B motor plan :frowning: Hearing that thing scream behind me in the car would have been the tits

Just make a track with all of the sounds of the R26B and put it on the iPod. Then listen to the headphones when you drive. Instant success!

Like a Honda with a 4th order burble on its oversized stereo?

An LS1 swap would weigh less.

OH MY FREAKKING GORD! :wow its like FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWK WNYA FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWK WNYAAAAAAAAAAAAA
