:hay: I <3 my sr20 swap. How else would a lazy guy like myself get cheap speed?
you could but effidrine (sp) thats cheap speed
have i mentioned i like this thread?
Newmann, none of this was really directed at you mostly because I knew alittle of your past, and it is easy to read you in some of your statements, talking with you and what not. It is easy for people now a days to “see what is on the net”, see what other people do, and just blatently copy it and say “this is the reason why I did it” and effortlessly post a link to another web site.
I get so frustrated when people bash something and never really truly understand what is behind it.
So many of times I see DIY items that are nothing but garbage because they see what someone else did and just copied it.
I want to see someone with INNOVATION, EXPERIMENTATION, DETERMINATION on this board, and will stop and nothing to find the best part for their car or whatever. Not just doing something because they see that 40 other people are on that group buy on their car forum.
I have TON’S of respect for the TRUE INNOVATORS, people like the guy that found that by crushing your DSM BOV you could get benefits from it. He apparently understood that by increasing the preload on the internal spring that he could possibly get more psi holding capabilities out of the stock BOV. HE was an innovator for something so petty as crushing a BOV, but apparently he UNDERSTOOD what it would do if he did it.
INNOVATORS and their INNOVATIONS is where it’s at, not with the “Copy It Yourselfer’s”
Your point is well made Tom K., and we have all agreed to that insofar.
The major ‘butt-hurt’ of this debacle of a thread was the simply in that:
Was a dig against local shops.
I believe, at least I hope, that most of the members here have enough intelligent thought to realize that any “KIT” will have been engineered and costs are directly related to that.
I’m currently, and for the past few months, arguing with a vendor who is pioneering a kit for my application. I do not want, nor need his kit. What I do need from him is the info that he has discovered about the stock head in the R&D of the kit. I understand the money & time that he has invested into his product/service, I think most of my community (online) has, but when someone proclaims a tidbit of info online, without “hard proof”, then they should expect there to be trouble - for lack of a better term.
It’s not a matter of understanding in this case, it’s a matter of pride & misinformation.
Just my $0.02.

Funny you noticed that…
Maybe Jack should read that…
this is the best anti vw thread in a while… Not the best ever… but it good
it would be better if a lot of fast people were ripping on slow VWs and there was nothing the VWs could do to back up anything they say.
I wish I still had my leet honda so I could talk smack.
lol
Heres everything which is included in the stage 3 kit for $4500. Every nut and bolt. Maybe, it was a bad representation on Audi sniper’s part to show pics of 3 pieces of the kit, but im sure he didnt want to spend all day taking pictures. Its a bit easier to see where the $4500 price tag comes from.

(Yes, i know his is longitudinal and not transverse, but the parts are pretty much the same)
The stage 3+ kit adds a FMIC and a different turbo.
i assume the different turbo being the gt28. i looked quickly but didnt see anything… do they have an upgrade to the rs or the 71rs?
Actually, afaik, the S3+ is a bit more than just a new turbo + FMIC. The transverse kit TT is supposed to put out 386WHP
But as far as I can tell it hasn’t come out for his car, nor will it. So I guess I may have been right w/ my original comments 490 days ago
The stage 3+ for the 1.8t uses the Gt2871R
Just going by what the website says:
APR Stage III is our cutting-edge turbo upgrade for your A4 1.8T. We at APR have worked long and hard to bring you the finest 1.8T upgrade available. Both kits are made with the best materials and engineering available, from the exhaust manifold to the hose clamps. APR Stage III is offered in a 280hp version with a Stage III+ version in the works. Stage III+ includes a different turbocharger and a front mount intercooler that fits with the factory front bumper cover.
The TT version of the stage 3+ which puts out 386whp probably includes more but it also costs $6900.00. (That will probably start a whole new thread). Also, the 225 TT block is built to handle more HP.
werd, thats a hot turbo
There is no S3+ for the A4 yet, hence what I said. It will probably be similar to the TT kit (if they ever produce it), at a lower power level due to the forged internals of the TT. The S3+ is $6900, and what he supposedly originally won. However he got the Stage 3 and a FMIC, not a Stage 3+
Jeller is right about the new VW’s and engine management. The stock ECU talks to the gauge cluster and you might as well replace the cluster if you go standalone. It is a PITA.
BTW I sell a complete GT28RS kit for the same car for 2075… LOL
It doesn’t include a manifold, downpipe, or intercooler. It bolts to stock or stock fitting aftermarket parts so you don’t get ripped off buying proprietary pieces for everything. It has the turbo, lines, fittings, fuel system, ecu tuning etc. though.
2175 with a GT2871R instead mr. zd
nice
now thats a good price, and i bet that engine loves the 71. have you plotted it yet?
I haven’t but I think i’ll just have to now
I’d call it 3 grand with a nice FMIC and downpipe. Then you have over 3 grand to play with making a manifold.
but… but…
Information that I know and has already been covered.
And technically they do make the S3+ for the A4, just not the B5 Quattro.
