congrats!
Great way to “end” the thread. Console looks fantastic and I love the way you worked with the lines of the interior, not tossing in mass-produced trash like some would. Industrial design FTW
Looks like nearly 2 years have passed since this thread last saw action! Since then, the '55 had been spending it’s time in MN racking up ~4000 miles:) However a short list of issues began to become noticable, some of which were my fault from a lack of knowledge when I did the initial build, some on parts that have worn out. Struck a deal that if I drove the car back to Buff I’d take care of these…so a few weeks ago I took the Mustang on a little drive to MN, left it there, and returned with the '55:)
Here’s what needs to be addressed:
*Trans has been shifting very slowly on WOT. Basically the rpm’s just hang and it won’t upshift…have to left off the gas and then it will engage. This sucks, but I have a friend who rebuilds 4L60E’s on the side and can hopefully take care of this. Not sure if it’s internal parts gone bad, or something electrical?
*Think I have a serious bumpsteer issue going on…will try to grab a pic showing this, but with the lowering springs and rack and pinion conversion, the tie rods are angled upward in an ugly manner. The car had always liked to dart on the highway over bumps, but I always thought that was just the nature of an old car. Had I known better then I could have sourced out the proper parts…
*Speedometer has never worked properly…it likes to bounce all over the place. Stewart Warner tech people were worthless in their troubleshooting.
*Needs a power steering pump.
*Has blown the electric fan fuse twice now…not sure why.
*Needs tailpipes. The original system that Amton built ran the tailpipes between the frame and leaf springs…so every bump would crush the pipe. Awesome. Frustrated, I just cut these off and have been running dumps.
*Living in Northern Minnesota under tress every weekend it’s in need of a serious clean up to the paint. Bugs, tree sap, dirt, etc…but hey, the car is a driver so I’m cool with it!
*Probably a few other things I’m forgetting…
So, as this list get’s address, I’ll be looking to the resources of NYSpeed to help me out:)
When do I start
Tea Leaf;)
