if that becomes the case just let me know. I wanted that style tank on my last XS650 so bad but at the time was on a shoestring budget and modified the stock tank instead.
Budget?! You’re just a cheap bastard haha
this thing looks so much better already, jeez.
I would leave the tank raw with a matching raw rear fender that hugs the tire a bit more.
If it hugs the tire any more the tire will crash into it when you hit bumps, lol. Plus if I put a fender like that on it’s just going to look like a zillion other bikes.
Did you sell the BMW whole or part it?
Bueno
Got a sportster tank to try on there, but the tunnels on sporty tanks aren’t deep enough for it to sit flat, so:
Finished the body work on the fender and also got a cool unity light and made a bracket for that.
I got the tank mounts made yesterday. One rear tab and two bottom mount side tabs in the front. It actually sit’s slightly more forward than shown in these pictures. Going to clean up the triple trees and paint them today or tomorrow.
Looks sick. Well done again.
I’m really kicking myself for not putting the brake on the left side, though. I shaved that leg fully and left the tabs on the right leg. Would have looked better the other way. Oh well.
really dig the headlight. lol.
Lined the tank:
Gor it etched:
Primed with high build:
Next I have to do a bit of bodywork on the tank and then will spray it and the fender a dark metallic grey. Anyone have any good OEM dark metallic grays?
Also snagged some vintage equipment for the home shop. Saw and mill for 1200 bucks. Less than a dollar a pound! (allegedly mill weighs 1300, saw weighs 300). Thanks to @King and my dad for helping muscle it around. Gotta get a vice and a small rotary table for it.
amen - that garage is coming along nicely
I’ve got some Ford “Liquid Grey” kicking around…
That could work. How metallic is it? Hard to tell from internet pics.
Earl would have a “Safety First” t-shirt on, lol.
fairly metallic really. I’ll see if I can dig it out of the cabinet today or saturday and text you a pic.
Nice work as always!
Can I ask where you scored the Saw? I’ve been trying to find a good place to get used equipment like that for my shop.
Actually i made a thread here, someone linked one on CL, then when I went there he just had the mill sitting in the corner.
That’s a nice sized mill. XY dimensions? Is it single phase already or still have to repower it?
Nice, glad it worked out. Wasn’t sure if you actually got it.
