Moeller Shadow Black, marine paint. In stock at West Marine off the 190 as of a few days ago.
I’m not wrong in thinking that the only good color for this is grey, right?
Also to note the tank sit’s about 1" further forward when it’s bolted down.
greys cool. the blues ok.
I personally like dark colors…dark forest green, navy blue you don’t see a lot, dark not-bright orange.
The colors amazing, but if you’re going for something different, it seems like the majority of chopper/bobbers I see are raw, black, or a wild crazy color.
I think a dirty off white could look cool too - what does the bike owner think? no input, just trusting you?
Grey is too dark for that bike IMO. Just looks like one big blob due to the darker characteristics it possess.
Right I keep going back and forth. I just think since the tank and fender are both pretty small that the splash of color is too localized.
are you doing the paint yourself or taking it somewhere? I have a pile of “mistake” paints I bought for future projects we could pick through, I’d be willing to paint the tins…mostly because I wouldn’t wanna give up the entire pint/quart of whatever color if you liked anything I have…cause I’ll likely want to use that color on another bike somewhere down the line. I have this wicked root beer brown type color featured on the King Ranch ford trucks (code T5) that I’m dying to put on a bike, might do my xs750 cafe racer in that color…
also have a dark teal green metallic, dark wine red metallic, orange metallic, dark silver metallic (not quite grey), a dark grey that has a lot of blue to it (new chevy color), and I have two shades of blue metallic…one is really pearly and the other is like a dark royal blue.
you’re welcome to swing by and check them out.
I’m going to spray them myself. I just snagged a 400 dollar devilbiss gun so I’m hoping I can make it nice.
The paint won’t be that expensive. I just need to decide on a color, or have brian decide on a color.
Napa on werhle has a STACK of chip books I’ve picked through from time to time and their in-house brand of paint lays pretty nice IMO. their “Finish 1” brand of primers and clears work very well too…that’s all what I used when I did Haenzels A4 parts.

you’ll like the DeVillbiss…I grabbed the “StartingLine” and it’s been a great gun…I’m guessing you bought the FinishLine with all the internal parts being anodized? good stuff…what size tip(s) did you grab?
I generally just go to Al-Will. I have some nice 2k primer and clear coat. Chroma brand. I really just need color.

Gti mellenium pro at the suggestion of Andy Zion. Has 1.3,1.5,1.8
perfect. that’s the same tip sizes I have/use…I added a 2.3 tip for ultra high build surfacer but that’s unnecessary for motorcycle sized parts lol. if you/client like any of the colors I have I’ll make up a reduced pint for $20 for you. otherwise yeah Al-Wil or napa are good places to look through chip books to pick a color. My focus is ChromaBase but then I started using Matrix cause I can get it through a work account and have found it to be comparable for less money.
I agree on both points which is why I would go with something other than gray, but still not “bright” colored. Actually something like a root beer or olive green would end up being really nice.
This looks nice
I friggen love those forks. Great work, dude.
Is this going to turn into a regular thing? (Taking on customer builds) It seems like you’ve found a true passion for it.
That color is GREAT! That bike looks cool as hell.
Out of curiosity, what does a bike like this cost?
That is a great color.
+/- $8k
not bad… pretty cool toy for the cost
is that before or after newman gave it his special touch and made it something worth while to look to look at? no one likes to give prices or anything but I’m curious on what he originally paid for the bike and then what his bill with newman is. id like to buy a bike like this and tinker with it (change tank, wheels/tires, bars, forks, fender, yada yada yada and make it mine) I just don’t have all the knowledge or machinery like he does to make bars and shave the forks. just want to know what kind of price I should have in mind so I’m ready to spend when the time comes, and by the way this bike looks 100000000x better than what it did before lol, it looked very lame and old manish when he bought it
