I don’t think you have ever been to a drag strip. I was probably going to them when you were still playing with barbies. We are talking NEW cars. You can get a used GT500 for $27-30k low price area. With a pulley/tune/intake run high 10’s at 128-130. My friends '07 trapped 129 and ran mid 11’s with 18" tires still. And yes, plenty of Z06 at the track and I have plenty of knowledge of what they are capable of. Why don’t you come to the track some time and show me your infinite car and racing expertise.
Most of the times and data people throw around about GT500s or Mustangs in general are from the car mags that shift slower than crap and can’t launch a car without traction control or AWD to save there life.
I love how people see a few lame street race vids too and think that showcases a cars potential lol. I have seen Z06 stock, Z06 with SC, and Z06 with nitrous at the track.
I have also seen a bolt on/cammed c6 z06 run 10.6’s @ 137 at the valley…
from what I have seen…the GT500 needs a solid 100rwhp over the c6 z06 to be a good race given the weight difference, gearing and aerodynamics.
im glad you have been going to the drag strip for so long, but how long you have been going to the drag strip is completely irrelevant to these news cars that came out in 2006+ that we are having the comparison about…
A guy I knows '07 GT 500 with the baby TVS 2300, stock motor, stock tranny, gears, exhaust and suspension and of course slicks.
OH and it still had the stock clutch as well. If you would like to race one of these slow GT500 come on up anytime this way. But this guy ran 10.88@129 with just exhaust and gears on his 2010. It was a whipple now and he is going to a tvs this spring.
when did I say they were slow? when did I compare MY car to a GT500? now your just turning shit around and getting off topic. We were talking about a Zr1 and a c6 z06 in comparison. Not my slow camaro so nice try…
what happens on the streets tho where these cars get driven 99% of the time?
How is it irrelevant? I have been going since then and never stopped. Unlike most GM guys I have owned or worked on everything else too and I am plenty capable of knowing what they run for times and the power they can make.
Yes, they do need more power due to weight and aerodynamics. And I like the Z06 regardless of who makes it. But all the nonsense that “a bolt on GT500 can’t keep up with a stock Z06” is retarded.
The original comparison was a NEW car, I could go ahead and toss my LX in to the comparison if we are talking used cars but that is retarded. A new GT500 is $47-55 depending on options, sticker price. For the extra price difference you could slaughter a Z06 and have less $$ in it.
Plenty at the track up this way, not sure who runs at LVD I am sure if you posted up on SVTP you could get some runs with someone. Or for sure at E-Town.
99% of the time?? The track and the street are no different, if someone can’t drive at the track they will lose and the same on the street. Have you driven or road in a Vette or GT500 on the street?
Maybe someone up there will run on the street, no idea. If you go there or have for awhile you more than likely have seen me or my friends before. Nobody I know around here is into street racing other than the young kids that don’t care about there license. We used to do it years ago but there were half the cops as there are now.
That is not true at all, many of us have children and can’t ride around in a 2 seater car. Same price range used, yes due to the horrible resale of Corvettes. GM guys are way more diehard, at least the ones I know. The real “car” guys know the GT500 have plenty of potential, not many cars can run 9’s with stock motor, stock trans, stock clutch, etc. I do like Z06, I have no doubt if I had one I could probably run some good times at the track with one as they (C6 Vettes in general) hook pretty good off the line. I am not as “diehard” as everyone thinks, I just think some of the Mustang blanket statements are retarded lol.
This started off as a new vs. new comparison, then the used price of a Z06 came up. They are good deals for a used car, as far as a 2 seater probably the best used car to get.
sorry but ya kinda did. Might actually be a decent run from a roll given the weight and aero difference if you were running a big shot.
Also why does it always boil down to 1/4 mile times for the mustang guys. The great thing about a vette is the over all balance of the platform, because sorry there is no way the over powered stang could hang with it around a flat track.
That is all he ever talks about, actually all he talks about is roll racing on the street LOL.
On the track the 2011 Mustangs are quite fast, the new Boss 302 LS is faster than the Z06 on the track with less power. I agree the Super Snake would be a handful on a road course, it handles great but the power will be hard to put down.
Actually my friend text me last week to tell me the new Boss 302 Laguna Seca beat the lap times of the R8, 996 GT3, Z06, and more…
and apparently you have a problem with this, and it shouldnt be your problem. I like to do what I want to do, and you like to do what you want. Leave it at that. No need to start bashing me…
besides, all I ever see you post is, “my friend this, my friend that. This car, that car (insert link here” bla bla. Its always the same old shit in every post you make. What about YOUR car. Not your buddys, sisters fiance’s childs car…yours…
No I don’t, I just think it is funny that your only way to judge a cars performance is racing on the street lol.
I don’t remember this thread saying anything about 93 Mustangs? So why would I bring my car into it? I bring up cars relevant to the discussion, sorry I don’t own a GT500. So since I have worked on, driven, etc. plenty of fast cars the fact I don’t choose to spend the $$ on one now I am less educated on them?
