Then I continued with shaving the rear wiper:

Dual core turbo radiator (back side), you can see how much thicker it is.

Started doing a 5 lug swap, with conquest wheels.

HMMM…this could be a problem:

Fender flares can fix that!

But for a while I rocked stock 86 non-turbo wheels

Picked up some Z31Parts.com “Z3R” Springs, now discontinued. 300lb/in front, 315lb/in rear, big improvement from the stock 140lb/in.

And…sourced a VG33, since I blew a headgasket from overheating it, at 211,000 miles on a NA engine running 11psi on the stock turbo!

Put the springs in:

Working on the flares:

Some cheapo tires since it was almost winter, had these laying around. Once spring comes I’ll get some good tires.

I still have to modify the 86 Z31 side skirts to be wide enough in the rear for how its set up…

I’m going to redo a ton of wiring when I put the VG33 in, as well as clean up the engine bay and repaint it white, since I’ve decided now to keep the car white.

With the VG33 is coming some mild cams, modified stock T3 (shooting for around 300-320whp is all) and a new FMIC setup, then I’ll do more work on suspension, possibly coilovers…

I also picked up 6 450cc injectors from a turbo eclipse.

As well as some nifty quick release injector connectors (no picture)

For now, I decided to try a new way to keep my FMIC cool. Unfortunately, I don’t drive the car in the winter and I can’t do this in the summer.

good wrenching. you need to extend the tail pipe.

Yes I do, I have a 3" piece of straight pipe to do so but I haven’t yet. Actually, I had gotten a ticket for “inadequate muffler” or something because of it, even though it isn’t that loud IMO…but I guess since it doesn’t exit from under the cabin right? lol There is a muffler in the middle though, where the cat used to be. Being an '84, I only get Safety inspection not emissions, so…

nice, looking forward to updates

This is from a few weeks ago, last drive before it snowed. Its with a blown headgasket, cars def lacking power over what it did when the headgasket was sealed. lol

Nice work thus far

Good build. Im using a 1988 vg30et on my Locost build. I like to see other still building these motors.

Yeah I know, seen you on Z31Performance.

My car changed agian. I took the fender flares off, and the car got a bit more 80s…or maybe less 80s? Depends on how you look at it lacking the flares I suppose. Still need to smooth the 1/4 panels after filling the mounting holes from the flares, I should have just left them off. lol

Temporary wheels with tires that actually allow the car to move in the snow:

87-89 third brake light:

Black interior swap, needs cleaning badly, and the black e-brake handle put in.

I liked those flares

They didn’t fit the quarter panels right because for proper installation you have to cut them, which I refuse to do…and in doing so, I could have made them work but I would have to modify the side skirts to be wider in the rear of them, and I’m pretty tired of fiberglass/bondo and sanding…lol

Plus the fenders I had on the front had a couple creases in them and some dings…cars straighter this way and sooo much closer to paint.

VG33 is in! Some small things left to do, some wiring stuff, hoses connected, intake manifold and charge pipe, drive shaft, exhaust…coolant. Hopefully my radiator gets here soon.

Nice job

Coming together nicely…never was a fan of this model Z, but looking forward to seeing how this one turns out…

Bitch runs. Ignore the buzz at the end, I have a short in my speaker wiring I have to fix…it feeds power into the DS speaker (I think its the bitch)

Awesome

What do you guys think about seafoam? I never tore this engine apart (it was low low mileage, under 100k) but it did have some carbon buildup in the intake ports (which I cleaned up pretty well) HOWEVER it is smoking a bit (it had good compression and such before I pulled it out of the donor). I’m sure some of the smoke is from my exhaust and the fact that the old engine had a blown headgasket, probably still some residue in there.

Another small issue I need to work out is fixing leaks in the intake (MAF to turbo, and turbo to TB) due to crappy stock intake piping having lame ways of being sealed. I’ll be doing that by making a new FMIC setup and turbo inlet. Then again at the same time, it could be running lean due to the leaks in the intake which may cause some smoke possibly? My wideband isn’t hooked up yet.

I got the intake all sealed up and the smoking went away, was just from incomplete burn
