MKIII Supra 2JZ build

I usually don’t make build threads before the build is finished, but I figured what the hell. I’m bored.

1989 Toyota Supra 5-speed N/A. I bought it in December of '07 from the original owner since December of '88. Everything was original. 100% rust free. Car spent it’s whole life in Mississippi.

2JZGE from a 199? Lexus SC300
Turbonetics 60-1
440cc injectors
SAFC II in conjunction with an AEM wideband
OEM TT Headgasket with ARP studs
ARP rod bolts

The 2JZGE will be ran off of 7MGTE sensors, ECU, and wiring harness.

The block just came back from the machine shop getting the cylinder walls honed and the deck resurfaced. New rings and bearings are on order from Toyota.

I will keep updating this thread as the build progresses.

Took the head apart, did some porting and polishing. Installed the oil pan and water pump.

Valves are in, now for the buckets, cam shafts, and the best part… to shim the valves.

Buckets, shims, and cams are in.

Shimming is complete, cam gears and timing belt installed.

And for those wondering about the stripes on the hood, and why the photos in my intro thread don’t have them, is because I had a front-end collision and was lucky enough to find another white Supra in the scrap yard, but it had the stripes on it. After the engine build is complete, the whole car will get a coat of the original white again.

Installed the 7MGTE cam position sensor to delete the stock 2JZGE distributor.

Running 2JZGE(VVT-i) coil packs.

I really hope that wastegate pictured is an HKS and not the ebay knockoff…I had one back in my turbo focus days and the diaphram tore after about 3 months and I couldnt run the RPMS over 4k or I would overboost until I could afford a Tial 38mm replacement…which ment an entire summer if limping the car at the time. dont make the same mistake if its not a real HKS, go buy a proper gate, it’s one of the most imprtant peices of the puzzle

I think its hit or miss with ebay crap. I’ll buy the good stuff always, but I know quite a few people who have had good luck with ebay knockoffs…and a lot who didn’t also. There is a Z31 that has gone 10.3 in the 1/4 using ebay blow off valve and an ebay wastegate…hes been using the same ones for years. Not saying you’re wrong and it didnt happen to you, just saying it seems like they either work properly or fail completely, theres no in-between and you never know what you’re going to get.

Its hit or miss, alot of people on Supraforums have luck with XS Power wastegates. But if anything I’ll just get a real HKS. Not a big deal to me.

A few months ago I did see a stretch Toyota Cressida limo on Craigslist for $2500. I was soooo tempted.

Alright, so because the 2JZGE has an intake manifold that goes over the engine, I had a problem with the throttle body hitting the hot-side of the turbo The intercooler piping to the throttle body will not clear. So I just purchased a Ford 4.6L throttle body from a Crown Victoria from eBay for $25.

Going to have to cut and weld a new flange to the Y-Pipe.

Don’t worry, the hole will be cleaned up.

Finished up the flange for the throttle body. I am very happy with the results. I would highly recommend this to anybody with a turbo’d 2JZGE that doesn’t want to use a FFIM. We also welded a 7M TPS sensor flange to the throttle body aswell so that it can accept a 7M throttle position sensor.

Alright, finally, a pretty awesome update.

Made brackets to bolt the coil packs to the head and started on the downpipe.
