1989 Supra

Pros and Cons? I know Nothing about this year…but I want to become one with it.

What…

  • Body is it
  • Motor Options (Can it be Turbo’d)
  • Compatable Years
  • Are Targa Tops rare in this car?
ETC…I Need and want to know.

Before someone says it. Yes, I would ditch the black stripe…

I would trade my GA for this. Period.

#1: Is the GA your daily driver?

No.

Edit: I would buy this first then sell my GA out right.

Then, if that chassis is as clean as it seems… trade, asap.

The supra will have far more aftermarket support, and OBD will allow you to have more fun mechanically.

Talk to 2TurboZ, hes got a few of these cars, and I think hes got a few threads started regarding them.

I called the guy selling it and he said this car is flawless.

He is asking 3,500 if I “Buy it now” is this chassis worth the 3,500?

talk to this guy…

Pmed 2TurboZ. Thanks.

:picard:

Dew it! Soooooooooo much cooler than a Grand Am.

Ditch the two gigantic red stripes on the side. They are pretty spiffy cars though.

PM responded to.

horrible wheels

‘The engine has been completely redone’ That makes absolutely no sense. You don’t ‘redo’ an engine. You rebuild an engine or you refresh an engine, you redo an interior. Sounds fishy right from the start, don’t waste your time or money. Your Grand Am is also faster and these things can’t be easily turbocharged. The only thing it has going for it is the manual transmission. Hold out for a turbo or at least something that’s close by for you to have looked over by a mechanic. I can already tell that you are going to regret this purchase, I bet the head gasket blows within the month.

why is everybody talking about 89 supras now

anybody else notice the strange pinstriping?

and no, I would not consider this car for a second.

Those wheels are terrible, other than that Do it up.

Even if you were to buy it sight (relatively) unseen, how would you transport it, fly/drive or truck/train?

I’d want to see some underside shots, etc. Don’t make a $4K impulse buy.

blech, check out supramania.com register and look at the cars for sale, youll find one closer and better priced that thing is a heap. my buddy bought a 89 supra turbo for 2k last year, we drove it all summer, and are now doing a 1jz swap. these cars are HEAVY and you need a 1jz (most economical IMO) for real power, dont get me wronge the 7m has more displacement but the 1jz has more potential. do yourself a favor and check out supramania. if you really want one.

supras are great cars i would give it a go, new paint and wheels and your set

Do you have any idea what you are talking about? the 7m is just as good as the 1j power wise but has quite a bit more torque. the 7m has a bad rap because of its issues with HG’s which toyota acknowledged. The bottom ends will make just as much power as a 1/2J block. Not to mention the massive modifications you have to do if you do not have the right subframe for the 1j to bolt in.

But if the 1j is almighty then I will be looking for you with my weak 7m this summer.
