‘The engine has been completely redone’ That makes absolutely no sense. You don’t ‘redo’ an engine. You rebuild an engine or you refresh an engine, you redo an interior. Sounds fishy right from the start, don’t waste your time or money. Your Grand Am is also faster and these things can’t be easily turbocharged. The only thing it has going for it is the manual transmission. Hold out for a turbo or at least something that’s close by for you to have looked over by a mechanic. I can already tell that you are going to regret this purchase, I bet the head gasket blows within the month.
blech, check out supramania.com register and look at the cars for sale, youll find one closer and better priced that thing is a heap. my buddy bought a 89 supra turbo for 2k last year, we drove it all summer, and are now doing a 1jz swap. these cars are HEAVY and you need a 1jz (most economical IMO) for real power, dont get me wronge the 7m has more displacement but the 1jz has more potential. do yourself a favor and check out supramania. if you really want one.
Do you have any idea what you are talking about? the 7m is just as good as the 1j power wise but has quite a bit more torque. the 7m has a bad rap because of its issues with HG’s which toyota acknowledged. The bottom ends will make just as much power as a 1/2J block. Not to mention the massive modifications you have to do if you do not have the right subframe for the 1j to bolt in.
But if the 1j is almighty then I will be looking for you with my weak 7m this summer.
