'90 300ZX - Budget "Barbie-Mobile" Build

This is my 1990 300ZX. I got it for assisting in changing the engine in one of those fake 200SX’s (2 door sentra)…sooo, I have nothing invested really.

It will be a major budget (TT) build.

The engine…was destined for my 86T. Its going in this now because I miss my SOHC anyways. I traded a VG30ET I had about $1000 in for this low-mileage super clean VG30DETT…it has a brand new lightweight flywheel and competition clutch rated for 500ft-lbs, never run on yet.

The engine was lacking turbos, but the guy I got the engine from was nice enough to pay for some nice low-mileage turbos…so no investment here.

A ton of crap…

EGR delete

And…because budget, stock intercoolers!

Now this is one I’ll follow. Lemme know if you’re looking for parts. Fair number laying around.

From what I’ve heard these swaps are difficult…best of luck, looking forward to the end result.

I’m sure Andy Watt can help you out.

hopefully this turns out better than that red one on here… :picard:

I mounted it in a Z31…and got the harness done…I think I can manage putting a Z32 engine into a Z32. LOL

You had to assist someone in an engine install and they gave you all of this? wtf

What are your plans for the motor? Upgrades of any kind?

All I got was the car…the VG30DETT and such I already had from my Z31 project…

Stock as stock can be for now. Budget build to ~250whp or so, then I shall see how low-budget I can be with upgrades too. Goal is a decently quick Z32TT for minimal spent.

But the car you got was running?

Yup, haven’t done anything to it but change the oil.

My thinking exactly. Goddamn that’s a good deal.

I miss mine…good luck with the build…they are a pain most of the time but very worth while when they are working.

I got ricer-licious clear corner lights for free

Annd…the intercooler and intake pipes came, along with a brand new MAF adapter/filter from Z1…

I also put tein springs in it…because I got them cheap. lol

Cheapest (cost to owner) 300zx build evar!

Doin double flower pot intakes? Injectors, ecu, anything? Details m’fer.

P.S.-fix / get rid of that plate.

I see one filter so I’d assume he’s going single intake. No need for dual intake until 500hp-ish engine power. A single can flow enough. Dual might help response marginally though.

Not sure where Z32 guys fail, but a Z31 guy did 709whp on a single stock Z32 MAF with a nistune’d Z31 ECU…just saying. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah…I used existing holes, its meh. I hate front plates…

Sure you can do it, but the stock MAF isn’t capable of metering that much air after about 500 with the VG30DETT. It’s just not as accurate. And I’m not sure how much air a Z31 motor requires compared to a Z32 motor.

PS, what are you going to do about the front bumper? Cut holes for the intercoolers or get a different bumper?
