91 240 help

Hello there! Ok here is my problem: I just bought a 240sx with the KA24DE engine in it. When i purchased the car I installed a new head. I got the head on, and got it running fine at idle but when I put it in drive(yes I know its an auto) and press the gas it bogs big time and sometimes stalls. It seems like it has no power whatsoever. I checked the timing it is on. What could be causing this bog? No check engine lights have come on. Could it be the fuel filter? Any ideas? The engine only has 5000kms on it.

air leak…?
maf problem?
cam timing off?

Bad spark plugs? Bad plug wires? Bad distributor? Head gasket not sealing? Bad injectors?

Check your air intake piping for cracks/leaks?

Sounds like Ignition Timing, Make sure when you time it you have the
MAF and Idle Switch Unplugged or else you will be timing to what the
computer advances or retards it to. I know when I set my timing on my
car to 15 degrees it ran like poop then when I realized I forgot to
disconnect those two clips I checked the timing I was running 5 degrees
After Top Dead Center  So make sure you disconnect those two clips.

BTW laurieandmike an introduction in the new members section wouldn’t hurt.

will do

ide bet 5 cents and a penny candy its either ur fuel filter or ur fuel pump

will i put a new filter on it started and still same thing and it stalled and now it wont start
got comp
spark
gas
the plug get wet
i clear it out try again get a little stumblw and nothing
how do i read ecu
my light on ecu dont come on at all
where can i get wiring to see if there is power to ecu
thanks
mike

Check to make sure that all the hoses are connected, you may have a vacuum leak somewhere.

It seems that the problem is either the air or the fuel. Maybe your injectors are clogged. Maybe your fuel pump is dying.

If you want us to help you out a little more, try to clean up your last post. It is very difficult to understand what your trying to say.

ok
sorry about the last post
ok here is my problem
i got a 91 240 ka24de
when i got the car the guy put a new rebuilt ka24de from japan motor imports
and needed a head because his mecanic didnt time it right and screwed the valves
i get the car go get a head put it on time it right put it together and started right up
it idled great
the first time i took it out for a ride was yesterday it idled good but when i put it in drive and gave it gas it stumbled and wanted to quit i kept playing with it and it kept doing it
i managed to go for a ride and the thing seemed like it had no power at all but it stayed going untill i tried to tramp the gas and then the same thing
so today i put a new fuel filter on it started it uptried it again to see if it fixed it and it was the same.the last time i tramped the gas it stumbled and quit and i havent been able to get it running since.
here is what i tried so far
comp 160 all the way across
i put new plugs and they were soaked with gas so i know there is gas
i tried spark and there is spark (blue)
the pump cuts in
it cranks great
i tried cleaning plugs and let cylinders clear out all i got was a stumble and then nothing
umm how do i get codes from ecu?
i notice that i only have 1 red led in the ecu and cant get it to light up at all
please help
mike

The LED should only light up when a problem is present IIRC.

My guess would be timing, thats what people always screw up when
swapping the head. Either igniton timing because you forgot to undo the
plugs like Adam mentioned, or cam timing because its not at TDC.

My buddys auto 240 is the same, He has a rebuilt motor also.

My other buddy is a mechanic at the Nissan dealership and he did a test on the computer and showed code 55 (witch is the code that tells you that nothing is wrong with your sensors).

Its either your air(Clean your MAF sensor) or fuel (fuel pump mostlikely).

We never figured it out yet?

A badly adjusted TPS could cause the symptoms you describe.

FYI… you really need to do a step by step logical diagnosis.
It’s very difficult to diagnose something that could have 20 possible causes remotly.

got it fixed!!!
when the engine was rebuilt the cam chain was off 1 tooth
fixed that and wow what a diff
it works great
lots of power fun
thanks for the help
