I live in a state that does not have inspections (some counties have emissions testing though)
and the shit you see on the road is unreal.

you JUST murdered your argument. so your friend is saying that even though we have this great, expensive, headache of a law that THERE ARE STILL UNSAFE CARS ON THE ROAD?!?! OH THE HUMANITY

there are already plenty of laws against unsafe vehicles. a yearly inspection does nothing to curb this problem - you just proved it yourself by quoting your friend. a car can barely pass inspection and then 6 months later the brakes can be metal on metal, corded tires (last I checked a good alignment was not part of the nysi law)

also, im wondering if you’re for the safe act? because vehicle inspections can be compared to gun control laws in a lot of different ways haha. sayn.

Gun laws and vehicle laws cannot (and should not) be compared.

Owning a gun is a Constitutional RIGHT.

Owning a car is a privilege.

Owning a car is not a privilege. Having a valid drivers license is a privilege. Anyone can own a car and let it sit and rot, but if you want the ability to Drive it on public roads, you have to have a special entitlement granted by the state.

Any schmuck can go out and buy a $300 car and let it rot in their yard.

Woah, just did a quick google search and realized that the vehicle mortality rate in New Jersey hit an all time record low in 2013! 3 years since they got rid of their inspection program
