alright. i don’t really know how to explain what i’m getting out of my car but…
more or less it’s worse in the first 5 minutes of driving, hot or cold.
she just feels like she’s got flat spots. put the throttle down a bit more and she does nothing. it’s like she’s holding back. my car has always felt like it could or should have more power than it does. but i don’t really know. it’s pretty difficult to explain. thats the only way i can think of explaining it.
complete tune-up done when i bought the car 4 months ago. k&n typhoon intake. highflow cat. 2.5" exhaust magnaflow resonator and muffler. cleaned the maf. cleaned just about every ground there is. no check engine light ever. (it does work)
other then that the only thing i can’t figure out is why when i let my car idle (parked) for a while the hicas light comes on.
i am a tech. yet we don’t see very many 240’s or even twin cams anymore. and im new to the 240 scene as well. we’ve done everything we can think of. so a little input would be awesome.
i believe the hicas light means it’s lacking pressure in the lines to the rear… this would lead me to guess that your PS pump is on the way out… or at least the rear half of it.
that was my first thought. yet it tests out perfect.
the pump thing never thought of it that way. i figured maybe because it idles for so long. just not enough pressure because of low rpm. didn’t really think ps pump could be weak.
you do think/know it’s the tps? i’m not saying it is or isn’t. just it tested out fine…
pulled the t.p.s out and it’s definetley nfg. reading 5 volts closed throttle and 10.7 ohms closed throttle. completely reversed. took it apart and everything looks fine. but hey. just waiting for one to come in. and they are a bit of a bitch to get out. needa be Japanese to get in there.
are you running coilovers by any chance? if the abs sensors aren’t mounted up to the stock bracket location properly the hicas light tends to go off too.
also, if even after you change your tps you feel that it’s sort of flat, it may just be the intake and 2.5" you’re running on the stock ka. the pull you felt in the lower end should move up higher with your setup so i’m not sure how much low end pull you’ll feel. i’m running stock intake + 2.25" axle back and even putting my silencer in at this setting i can notice slightly better pick up on the low end. i’m sure you know this but just in case… hope this helps some.
she has a highflow magna flow cat in her. flat spot is still there when it’s cold. like start up wait a minute then go. after half a km of driving it’s gone. but the car pulls much much better. beat up on my buddy’s 300 last night lol
with the intake and exhaust. i noticed a dramatic increase in torque. hp not so much.
