951 winter progress

Mike let me know if the “test engine” survives next year or at least the head I might go 16v also but stay 2.5

Tim, this engine will be for sale. After I’ve used it.

sack up.

Yeah, I’m pretty set on the LeMans boxed widebody… with a large set of venturi tunnels coming out the rear.

Work has recommenced. After months of not working on the car I’ve finally got back to it. Ordered the 1981 Porsche 944 GTP Widebody flares for the rear (same ones they ran at LeMans in '81) and started working on the new turbo engine. I’m doing a 2.5L 16v right now with all the proper bolt ons I had planned, and then either a 2.6L or more than likely a 3.1L 4 banger next season. Anyway, hoping to have the engine put together in the next month or so, so the manifold can start being put together.

My $250 backwood Kentucky 944S engine. Gonna run it with a thicker headgasket at lower boost and just play around with it next season.

Please excuse the quality (or lack thereof) of the photos, didnt have my DSLR with me.

As you can see you’d need to push out the 1/4 panel a good 1/2" or more (upto 1" in some places) at the very top to “cover” the tire. Technically I think you could do a 315 under “stock” bodywork (ground away inner lip on inner fender well, and on 1/4 panel) with a bit of rolling done to the actual 1/4 panel to get it to bow out.

Inner clearance

As it is, I’ll be pushing everything out with a small spacer so it’ll nicely fill my widebody until I can purchase BBS Motorsport wheels. More pics in the next week of bodywork, engine stuff, and the car being back on all 4 wheels.

all 4? i count 8?

Then you cant count, it’s 6 right now

So wait, if the tires are mounted on the rims and on the car, what is holding up your coffee and end tables at the house haha. Newman’s wheels for the E30? :stuck_out_tongue:

The M5 wheels…which are super gay, bec. now I got to bend WAY over to eat my cereal.

MAybe he’s not so selfish, sounds like a well thought out plan to me. :gay2:

Mike, did the flares you purchase replace the entire rear fender cover or do you just cut and bolt around the fender and add the flare? Will you have to repaint the car?

Rick, yes I’m going to have to paint body panels this year as I have new 1/4 panels, new doors, and new fenders. I wanted to do the center section and just pin the rear (as pictured) but I dont have the cash for it right now.

The new rear 1/4 panels will be attached with dzus fasteners on the inside of the lip (so you’d have to remove the wheel and open the door to remove them and pull the 1/4 panel piece off. It’ll be half fiberglass have stock metal till I have all the other more important parts of the car finished and sorted.

Basically I’ll be cutting the body down to it’s 924 width and then adding the flares back on to have a reasonable width (which is the width the cars that ran LeMans had). I have removed the stock rear diffuser and had a friend work out some aero stuff for me, the car will have a full underbody with rear diffuser. Just need to put it up on the lift and bend up the metal and work out mounting for it. I’m a touch more concerned with finishing the engine right now though.

i drove the 951 today.
