The car gets 34+ mpg city, and higher highway. When I bought it, the passenger window wouldn’t roll down (that is now fixed), and the head gasket was seeping from the rear (also fixed). The car is primer, and minimal rust. The hood has some rust at the very front showing through, and there is a quarter sized spot above the passenger-side door. Other than that, there is no structural rust, just a few surface spots from the primer being too thin.
The car starts right up, doesn’t leak fluids, drives nice, has a good stereo, takes 87 octane gas (PCM asks for 93 if you take it to 7,800 rpm, I don’t), comfortable seats, passes inspection, etc…
The car has just over 84,000 miles on it, the engine has just around 80,000 miles on it. The transmission is a special gearset that was installed by my friend who works at New Venture Gear, the company who makes the neon transmission. When he put in the 4.12 gears, he also installed the OBX lsd. The transmission alone is probably worth $800, since it is from what I know, one of a kind. The rest of the mods are worth way more than my total asking price as well.
The only real problem other than the car being ugly is that there is an exhaust leak. I think it’s a worn donut gasket from when I was doing the head gasket, but I am not totally sure. It’s not unbearable, but when you accelerate, you can hear it leaking from in front of the drivers seat.
Wonderful daily driver for gas savings, unstoppable winter car with these great snow tires and LSD, heat works, and safe. Buy buy buy!!
