99 articat ZRT 800 triple... Upgrades?

As the title said I’ve been searching the web looking for some possible upgrades for the sled. I may have a couple cracked pistons although I have not taken it apart myself just yet. Either way I’ll probably do a top end rebuild, pistons, rings, ball hone at the very least, and all new gaskets of course. As long as I’m in there I’m thinking about giving it a bump in power. From what I’ve read so far the best way to go is with a big bore piston kit.

What some cost worthy upgrades for these motors? I’m pretty tech savy (2 ASE’s shy of mastertech), so I’ll be doing the work myself but this will be the first venture into a 2 stroke build for me. Any help appreciated thanks.

By a rider forward chassis.

2 strokes are cake. easiest engines ever to work on

A ball hone won’t work due to the ports in the cylinder. I just rebuilt my dirtbike last week (my first 2 stroke too)… you’ll be in heaven. It’s so easy.

ride it how it is sell it for a rider forward chassis next season, you can do some mild porting, pipe and clutch it, picks, some suspension tunning, I mean its pretty endless on what you can do!

 I will have to stone hone then? I’ll be ripping it apart this Friday. I’m not sure if I’ll even bother to hone it dependent on if I see scoring.

I’ll just work on getting the top end rebuilt for the time being then… Any ideas on places to get the carbs synced? I heard triples are quite difficult.

ls1 swap?

haiiiiiiiiiii. resident arctic cat drag racer here. haha.

those zrt800’s can scoot. you can swap over to the tcat top end if you want to bump up the bore. good portwork is plenty. do the cases too if you want. say bye bye to any mileage though. run mid 120’s radar on the lakes easily.

honestly, if it were me, i would rebuild it stock. put a set of UFO’s in the carbs, tune it. stud the track adjust the suspension for speed and clutch it. you would be suprised how fast a stock motor triple will run. besides, 90% of the people out there dont have a fucking clue how to tune a sled to get the most potential out of the stock stuff, and modding the motor will only make it even harder to tune in unless you know what youre doing. clutching clutching CLUTCHING. and none of that bulshit clutch kit crap. get yourself a set of heavy hitter adjustable clutch weights. theyre the best clutch weights out there IMO.

Some great info thanks! Any ideas on where to take it to get the carbs synced/tuned? Mild port work of these is pretty straight forward?

dont touch the ports if you dont know what youre doing. i strongly urge you to take a look at UFO’s for the carbs. my friend has a zrt800 that we put those in the carbs, sled runs great. put em in a zr700 and a zr900 as well. those carbs are pretty easy. youre best bet is to do it yourself and learn. just pay attention to the jetting so you dont lean it out, the UFO’s in the carbs may result in you needing a little more fuel.

edit. after you get it together and running if you want some tune work done and choose to use the above products, shoot me a pm and we may be able to work something out.

Good to know someone on here is familiar/knowledgeable with this platform! I have experience with 4 stroke efi motors but no 2 stroke carb applications. I’ll post pics of the carnage tomorrow thanks for all your help.
