ok…darkstar posted up that thread about his trucks brakes…so i tell him ill do them for him…pads rotors…easy right?
wrong
i take the truck over to hotrodkids house since my tools are in springville at my moms. as i drive the truck the brakes are grinding like hell without even touching the brake pedal, i wont even get into wat is sounds like when u touch the brakes…bad…i go pick up the pads and rotors for dons 01 silverado 1500 from autozone, get to hrk’s house. as im backing the truck into the driveway the pedal goes to the floor after i hear a “clunk” sound. im like…o, the rotor broke…lol…open the resivoir its only half full(or empty, which everu prefer). i look underneath the truck and i see brake fluid everwhere, check the lines…nothing…its leaking right from the caliper. so i call don and tell him i need more money to get the caliper. this is around 8pm…hes in ea at bigairskier’s house…in the meantime i figure ill take off the caliper to save him the core charge, the piston is cracked in about 450387650987529845246 places, ive never seen that b4…ill have him post a pic of it when i talk to him.so anyway… he gets to hrk’s at 8:45, advanced closes at 9…we get there at 9, they bring the new caliper up and its a front caliper, the part number was the same as the rear aparnetly…they call the cheektowaga location, we head over there on a “hunch”, thankfully its the right one. so we head back to hrk’s…nick is immediately like “mike, look at the old pads, now look at the new ones”…sure enough autozone gave me the wrong ones…so i had to wait to finish it today…but thank god its done now
lessons learned:
i need to not work on cars anymore cause the “problem” is never the only “problem”
DON NEEDS TO ADDRESS BRAKE PROBLEMS SOONER…
the problem was the caliper hangin up…not the pads seeing as to the passenger side was all fine…END RANT
