a little anecdote

just reading a text book and came across this little tid-bit, thought i’d share it.

the topic is compound interest rates and how you can apply the same math to things other than $$$, like growth rates for most anything including population.

An american social commentator once observed that the number of lawyers in the united states is increasing at a higher compound rate than the population as a whole (3.6% versus 0.9%), and that in 2 centuries there will actually be more lawyers than people.

That’s acutally quite funny

What’s really funny about the comment ‘more lawyers then people’ is that it’s either bad math (each new lawyer will also increase the population by 1, so you can never have more), or it’s really good humor (a lawyer really isn’t a person)

Actually, I think it’s saying both.
