IMO the biggest threat to our American way of life is the fact that we’re letting our cowboy government run fucking wild.
We declared war on Iraq to enforce a UN resolution even though the UN itself said “not yet.” We demanded that the government do something to make us feel safe again so we were quickly sold on the idea because at least it was something. Granted it made no sense, but shoot now ask questions later.
Then there’s the Patriot Act. We gave the government permission to tap our phone lines, read our mail, and arrest people without warrant.
Let me repeat: WE GAVE THE GOVERNMENT PERMISSION TO ARREST PEOPLE WITHOUT WARRANT.
We sold out. We traded in our freedom for our protection. This flies in the face of the principles that our nation is based on. Times like these when we feel the most threatened are the times that we need to cling tight to our founding principles, not trade them in for a sense of security.
We have spent 6 years with a very weak leader in office. I hope to God that when Bush is done we see 20 years of strong leaders in office. Leaders with vision and conscience, that can work to restore us to the land of the free and the home of the brave rather than the land of the rich that want to feel safe. 20 years from now we aren’t going to be the #1 economic superpower. No way. We’ll be #3 behind China and India. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t still be the greatest place to live.
I just hope to God that Bush doesn’t do any more damage for the duration of his term. He’s already degraded our founding principles and turned much of the world against us. But at least we feel safer, right? We’re not, but at least we feel that way…
Just for the record, I’m the first person to claim that this is the greatest country on the planet in which to live. We’re just going through a very dark time where we seem to have lost our way in the face of a new enemy. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go dig up FDR and clone him…
hahahah agreed FDR FTW…however don’t forget we had alot of the same issues with FDR as well. Alot of his policies were aimed at containing possible problems. Japanese American Concentration camps, wire tapping, FBI run amok etc.
this thread really opened my eyes to how serious the war is.
i defiantly agree with “its war. you give up freedoms in war for security.” you fight to win, not try to keep everybody happy. the PC shit needs to stop. if profiling pisses the muslims off more, oh well. we have a war to win. the fact is, the people organizing the attacks on us are muslim and the ones setting off bombs / taking over planes are muslim. thats all the reason we need to profile.
No no… Bush invented all those attrocities. No other president has ever done anything like that in times of war. Never. That’s what the daily show told me and they are my #1 source for news, right behind the Onion and NY Times.
